Anyone else take Dalteparin (Fragmin) in pregnancy?

I was told via a very brief phone call two weeks ago that I needed antibiotics for a bladder infection and injections of Dalteparin.

When I went to pick up the prescription there was no time for questions, a midwife handed over the piece of paper and quickly went off to do something else.

I use a wheelchair full time and I am 14 weeks pregnant with DC2. Is it likely I've been prescribed it because I'm less active than the average pregnant woman?

I'm happy to use Dalteparin, but I am surprised there was no explanation as to why.

I am sure this is due to the risk of blood clots and reduced mobility.
You would have been assessed at booking.
Do you have a high BMI or a family history of thrombosis?

There should definitely have been a proper explanation though.

Yes, my bmi is 37, so possibly a number of reasons.

I think I'm just bothered that they'd give someone a new medication, not explain why or what it is and give me no guidance on how to inject myself.

For example, I have no idea if I need a sharps bin. Nothing has been mentioned.
I'm keeping them in a bag to give back to my pharmacy to ask them to dispose of them, but I think it's odd that I was just handed them and sent home to research it myself.

There is a good video on You tube. You will have to google as I am on my phone and it is hopeless.
But I think you should ring your midwife as there must have been a slip up somewhere if nobody has explained or taught you how to inject.

I'm not pregnant, but I'm on Fragmin. You should be given a sharps bin, definitely. Though you can bend the needle to make it safer afterwards (instructions in the leaflet).

Sorry I missed that you've already started so you probably know about bending them Blush
