benign = ok, yes, non-cancerous

Rubyslippers · 04/06/2007 19:58

yes - malignant is the one to worry about hope that the urgent referal confirms this for you as well

whomovedmychocolate · 04/06/2007 19:58

Benign melanomas = kindly freckles.

I've had both benign and malignant, I'd take the former as a blessing if I were you.

WigWamBam · 04/06/2007 19:58

No, don't google ... googling is never a good idea, you'll scare yourself shitless.

Benign is good; that's all you need for now!

misdee · 04/06/2007 19:58

i am so glad this GP has referred to be sure. he says it will be done urgently, just because its a mole that has changed, but he isnt overly concerned.

last GP told me not to bother checking moles

benign is excellent.

They will tell you what kind of mole it is if they test it. If its the same kind as mine they NEVER become cancerous. Dermatologost said he'd never seen a case in his career when that type had turned cancerous (he was about 120yrs old).

"I can still take it off if it bothers you" he said

"bugger off, sticking a knife in my back would bother me more" or words to that effect...

misdee · 04/06/2007 20:02

well its probably likely to be lopped off pretty dam quick. i;d rather a scar to be sure

my sister sent her DH to GP for his mole which she noticed changing even though it was very very tiny. They took 4 inches of skin and said that it was very very early stage malignant melanoma. Dr asked him how he ntoiced such a tiny mole changing, he said "my wife noticed"...

"go home and thank your wife" said Dr

stupid advice not to check - its up to a Dr to then decide whetehr its a problem or not.

Kewcumber · 04/06/2007 20:04

ah but I form Keloid scars so end up with scars bigger than the mole (its been removed several times before)

whomovedmychocolate · 04/06/2007 20:05

I've had twelve removed in total and I'm quite proud of the ones on my back, I used to wear vest tops in meetings and say 'don't stab me in the back, someone has been you to it'

FYI they do cauterisation with little lasers these days and the burnt skin smells like chicken. I had no probs with the ops but the smell made me vom on the consultant's shoes

misdee · 04/06/2007 20:05

i know. i was so at the other GP.

this one has suggested digital pics taken ever month or so and zoom in to compare, see if any changes. says they should be visiable with a good camera.

I love that stab in the back thing chocolate think you said it on another mole thread, am so jealous...

Kewcumber · 04/06/2007 20:07

have heard other Drs recommending good photographs if you have lots of moles too.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/06/2007 20:07

I have my naked body photographed by medical photographers once a year now. It's so unsexy.

misdee · 04/06/2007 20:07

Gop mentioned keloid scarring. tbh i have seen many scars, it wouldnt bother me. mind you i donty actually have any of my own lol.

fryalot · 04/06/2007 20:08

well done for going.

Glad it's good news. Don't google, you'll only frighten yourself.

misdee · 04/06/2007 20:09

thats why i asked on here and didnt google it lol.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 04/06/2007 20:09

it doesn't bother me Misdee but no point removing the mole for cosmetic reasons only (in my case as it was previous tested and not cancerous) to replace it with a bigger scar!

I form unusually prominent keloid scars for a white woman. The only place I don't form them is face, palms of hands and soles of feet
