I had a burst appendix removed about two weeks ago. I was initially misdiagnosed by GP with a UTI and only when the thing burst did i realised they were wrong and went to A&E. thereafter things moved quickly and I was in hospital for four days and have now been home for two weeks. I still feel like absolute shit. Physically the wounds and abdomen feel they are healing well (keyhole surgery) and getting stronger each day. Just on one set of painkillers usually at night. I had three days of wicked concrete poo after the opiates, followed by a couple of days diarrhoea which is starting to sort itself out now. I have now got thrush so have taken a capsule from the pharmacy. I still feel soooo weak and wibbly. I've managed short walks and sitting in the garden reading and watching telly and I know its a slow process but I'm normally healthy and strong. My head feels like it is in a right 'fug' like when you have flu or something. Dont know what I'm asking really. Is this normal. Will I ever laugh again? Sad

Up to 6 weeks. Your body has been through a tough time and needs to heal plus the anaesthetic knocks you out.
A friend of mine (who is a GP) thought her appendicitis was gastroenteritis until it burst. It can be tricky to diagnose in the early stages.

I was back at work two weeks after mine was removed.
I found getting back to real life really helped get rid of the brain fog. But I was totally knackered and doing slightly shorter days (9-3 rather than 8-4) and work were nice and didn't make me do anything too hard for the first week. I was also still taking ibroprophin at regular intervals.
But not being at home all day on my own (everyone i know works full time) and feeling fairly useful was nice.

I spose its lucky I am self employed flexible. I guess I just need to be patient. I am trying to do what I can but even the smallest task is exhausting. Thanks. x

Yes at least 6 weeks. I had to have six weeks off work.
