Ovarian cyst and nausea

Jackinthebox44 · 15/08/2018 13:09

Have name changed. 6 months ago I was diagnosed with a large (7cm) ovarian cyst. It's due to be removed via surgery in the Autumn. I don't know if it's connected but In the last few weeks I've started to experience severe nausea. I also get diarrhea at least 2 or 3 times a week. I'm struggling to eat anything resembling a normal meal. Sometimes the nausea goes for a short time (a day or occasionally two or a time) and I can eat normally. Today has been really bad. I managed a small bowl of cereal about 9am. I now have a sandwich in front of me but have only managed one bite. My periods (usually regular) are all over the place (two in one month or none for ages). I've tried taking antacid tablets but they're no longer working. Wibu to go back to the GP or is there anything over the counter I can take to stop the nausea?

Absolutely it would.

Can I ask what kind of cyst?

heartsease68 · 15/08/2018 13:20

Sorry, I meant it would absolutely be reasonable!!

It's a complex cyst. But not believed to be anything sinister

It's probably the pressure, isn't it -And likely to be surrounded by fluid. Maybe thedoc could prescribe something like Lanzoprazole. Worth a visit

Thanks for explaining. I was confused because an endometrial cyst of that size wouldn't usually need removing.

I think you should flag up the nausea asap and definitely make a big fuss if you run a fever.

Are you still under the hospital, just waiting for a date? I would ring your consultant's secretary and tell her what you've told us. The nausea could v well be connected to your cyst. It sounds as if it would be a good idea to have another ultrasound and Ca125, to check on developments over the last 6 months.

If the hospital refers your back to your GP - not sure of the procedure - they can order a scan and blood test off their own bat.

If the nausea is caused by pressure from lower down, it's not going to go away with indigestion remedies. Doesn't have to be sinister. Really large cysts can still be benign. But better safe than sorry - and you do need to be able to eat!

I have a date for surgery but it isn't until November.

Slightly better today - I managed to eat a small meal (sandwich, few crisps and some juice) in the afternoon but have no appetite for dinner or anything else currently. Yesterday I just had a bowl of cereal and half a sandwich so it's small progress.

Managed to book a GP appointment for tomorrow so hoping they'll be able to give me something so I can eat!

Glad you've got an appointment. I had a 22cm cyst/tumour, 'clinically benign'. By the end, it was squashing my stomach and one of my lungs. Everything went back to normal immediately after the op. With any luck you'll be able to get your surgery brought forward. You may have fluid round your cyst which is making it feel bigger, even if it hasn't grown very much.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi OP (and waving to Thymeout)

Just seconding what Thyme has said, and about asking the Dr for a CA125 blood test and an ultrasound if they don't suggest it. The nausea and lack of appetite is likely to be because of pressure - you'll be as thin as a rake if you wait until November to get that sorted! Anti-nausea medication won't help.

Keep us posted.
