her eczema has been looking worse. she appears to have mini spots everywhere, tiny fluidy filled things. no oozing, no pus, hard to describe.

are they sorty of milky. pearly white under the skin? Often they have a little dimple in the middle of the spot

misdee · 03/06/2007 21:21

yes, but tonnes of them.

its either than or infection.

doesnt look atopic or discoid, wo am a bit stumped tbh.

Ouch! poor dd3! It can be both. I think I have read somewhere that kids with eczema are more prone to get Molluscium. My two got it. took about 6 months to clear

multitasker · 03/06/2007 21:26

All my dc have had molloscum and they are harmless - they tend to itch and look unpleasant but there is very little the gp can do for them. It may take up to a year for them to clear up so be prepared.

misdee · 03/06/2007 21:27

she has scratched the top of one. i thought she was going down with chicken pox when they first appeared but she has had it already.

wel lshe needs to see GP anyway about the eczema, so will get them to have a quick check.

dd2 had them on her leg./knee for a few months at this age as well.

You can get it twice btw, particularly if the first round of chicken pox was minor.

Molluscum spots are far more 'solid' looking, and not filled with water, but rather a much harder, cheesy substance.

misdee · 03/06/2007 21:30

yes these are smaller and more solid.

they feel harder as well. and not scabbed over and they appeared about a week ago.

her chicken pox was terrible, head totoe plus bacterial infection.

Yes, sounds like molluscum to me too. When I first came across it I had no idea it was so common. Apparently most adults have an immunity to it, most of us being exposed to this mild virus when younger. I think all my children have it at the moment or have had it, but fortunately in all cases it has been really mild - just a smattering of spots not in particularly upsetting locations. Each spot doesn't last particularly long and eventually bleeds and then clears up, but the virus travels, so as one spot clears up new ones appear. The virus can take months and even years to go away completely. When I searched the Internet about it back along I found various treatments being suggested, but for every one that was hailed as a success by one mum, some other mum would have found it useless. The main thing to be aware of is that if you try to savage the spots you can end up leaving your child scarred. I am afraid the thing is best just left to work it's way out. I did try putting a few drops of tea tree oil in the bath which was one idea which didn't involve much hassle at least. I hope you don't have too distressing a time with this, sorry if this sounds bleak.

GP said it looks likely to be molluscum.

have to keep an eye on it and not put the cream on the spots which he prescribed for the eczema.
