Hello,
I'd like to buy a vibration plates machine/ trainer (like this one www.amazon.co.uk/ZAAP-TX-5000-Power-Vibration-Trainer/dp/B004ISE4XO/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=vibration+plates)&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1534175978&sr=8-7 but heard about the warnings regarding cancer and other health issues and I'm wondering if it's totally safe to use? Any health professionals and other experts thoughts on the matter please?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I am not an expert but work out a lot and I can’t possibly see how these would work to make you fit / lose weight / gain muscle.

Health risks aside, they’re a bit of a con and a seemingly easy way to cheat your way to losing weight. Ultimately won’t work.

Personally, I’d put your money towards a personal trainer to devise a programme for you which will be much harder work but will see better results

SporkInTheToaster · 13/08/2018 19:12

Cancer? How would that work then?

I can see increased risk injuries from falls/poor balance/improper use but not cancers Hmm.

SporkInTheToaster · 13/08/2018 19:19

shirley ‘a seemingly easy way to cheat...’ I don’t think that’s their purpose is it? They don’t wobble the fat off at high speed, you are supposed to do normal floor exercises on them (squats etc) and the vibrations cause your muscles to work harder to maintain your balance. The trainers at my gym don’t ‘sell’ them as a ‘cheat’, more as a way to get that bit extra from your work out/make the moves more challenging.

The only contraindication I have heard of is with possible eye issues with retina problems.
If you look up 'vibration plate' + 'pubmed' or variations of that it should bring up medical papers that may be relevant.
Really can't see how cancer could happen

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 13/08/2018 19:48

I don't think the risk is of causing cancer, but that if you already have cancer that it could help it to spread. No idea how likely that is. They're also potentially dangerous if you have a DVT or PE.

(I have cancer and PE and been advised definitely to avoid them!)

Spork I cant see the benefit at all. How you could get on there with enough space to squat with anything other than body weight I’m not sure.

I don’t believe that they really make any difference at all, certainly not a substantial difference, and I suspect that anyone who buys one is looking for that easy win rather than putting in the hard graft

With respect, I think people use them with the intention of toning muscle, rather than losing weight.
If I were you, I'd try doing a 15 minute continuous sequence of push ups, plank, tricep dips, calf raises and squats on one in a gym. You'll be very surprised at how much harder they make you work. I was introduced to them at an elite gym which boasted a lot of rowers and rugby players due to the location. The instructors put 10-20 mins on most people's plans.

You cannot “tone” muscle. You can build muscle and drop fat but the phrase “tone up” should be banned

Pressed post too early

Each to their own, but I personally cannot see how this is a wise investment or a better purchase than a strong regime

If it works for people then good for them

Thanks for all your replies.

Although I think it generally works, I will not buy it. I might try The Wonder Core 2:

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M04WME0/ref=asc_df_B01M04WME054824500/?hvlocphy=1006715&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=218078614963&creative=22110&hvpone&hvlocint&creativeASIN=B01M04WME0&th=1&hvpos=1o1&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforum-21&hvtargid=pla-425460640252&hvrand=11932025284007572761

What do you think? Is it suitable for beginners? Ay experiences, advice please? (I don't want to lose weight but to be more active/ tone up ad so on).

Thanks!

You’d be better with a set of heavy weights tbh OP, in my view
