DD started vomiting this morning at 4.30am. She had a fever of 39 then which has come down with calpol each time we have given it (which has had to be every 4 hrs)until this afternoon. She doesn't want to drink and has probably had about a tablespoon of fluid all day. Dh has just given her calpol as she was due some and she vomited it straight back up, her temp is ok at the mo. though as she had neurofen about an hour after last dose of calpol as calpol wasn't bringing temp down on it's own.
I've spoken to my friend who is a doctor(huge squeezes siandjess )who has given me ways to check if she is dehyd. which she isn't. Any other mum tips out there? She just looks so rough poor little thing.

Awww, I'll be forced to post a pic of her greeny/grey face to elicit a response soon...

I would be concerned that she wasn't drinking, tbh.
Could you give her some room temperature water in a syringe?

maddiebean · 03/06/2007 18:19

Everytime she sips anything she starts gagging

and THANK YOU humphreyCushion...I know children being sick is commonplace and dull but it's still worrying!

Mine have taken flat fizzy drinks much better than water when they are vomiting. Hope she picks up soon.

mummytosteven · 03/06/2007 18:30

I agree with Humphrey, I'ld be trying to get some more fluid down her.

filthymindedvixen · 03/06/2007 18:32

how old is she?

maddiebean · 03/06/2007 18:48

She's almost 4yrs (delay in replying was because she was falling asleep on the sofa so I carried her upstairs to her bedroom where she was sick again ) Basically any sips she have make her gag and sick there and then or if she's not sick then, at the most they are staying down about half an hour then she seems to sick up more than went down. She's being such a little trooper too

try the flat fizzy drink as schilke suggested - I have given flat lemonade to my DCs, and the sugar helps to rally them a bit.

maddiebean · 03/06/2007 18:54

It's not what she's having it's any fluid really is making her sick again, I've been giving her weak hi-juice (very sugary ) we don't have any fizzy drinks in the house either.

How is she today maddiebean? For my dcs the flat fizzy has stayed down while water comes back. Had dioralyte for ds2 when he was 10 months - GP suggested it. Water & squash wouldn't stay down so I was sceptical ..... he drank the lot (I couldn't stop him) and it stayed put.

If her temp is still high I'd get her to GP this morning. Hope she's better.

maddiebean · 04/06/2007 09:40

Awww, thanks for asking . Well she's stopped being sick and has held down a whole cup of juice this morning which is great. Her temp is lower but still there a bit above normal. The crap things are that she is totally miserable, won't eat and now has a rash on her chest and a very red nose (!) and is red round her mouth. Very strange. Generally I think she's on the mend though as she tends to get grumpier when she is getting better and she hasn't stopped grumbling all morning!

maddie my dd has ended up in hospital on a drip a couple of times, she's not too good with the sick bugs

they usually only do it with her if she hasn't kept anything down for 3-4 days, and she starts sleeping and sleeping all day due to dehydration

I don't think you're anywhere near by the sound of it so don't worry

even if it does happen it's not too traumatic, they just stick a drip in and you sit and read a book till they come round

maddiebean · 04/06/2007 09:47

No I'm sure she's not dehydrated (she has kept squash..not juice! down this morning) I've just checked her temp. It's not bad but it's gone up since I gave her calpol about an hour ago so I think I might have to give her neurofen too . I'm presuming the rash on her chest and redness on her face is just the virus coming out or poss. due to the temp?

Glad she seems a bit brighter. I know what you mean about the grumbling when they start to perk up! My littlest had a viral rash few weeks ago - tiny pinpricks over her neck, forehead and abdomen. When it appeared she actually seemed a bit better in herself. Hope she continues to improve.
