Go, back to A&E or leave it alone?

On Friday evening DD had an accident at home - tripped over toys and hit her knee hard on the corner of the wall. I didn't see quite what she did but she explained. shw showed me the injury (gash on right side of kneecap) which didn't bleed very much. However she couldn't bear weight on it and said it was painful to try to bend or straighten so we took her to A&E.
We were there within half an hour of her sustaining the injury and she seemed to be in less pain as time passed.
She was x-rayed and no break or crack was found but the Dr mentioned a chip showing on the left side of the kneecap. He made sure she could bend, flex and walk on the knee, and told us to use painkillers & cold compresses. No exercise for 3 weeks.
Today, bruising has appeared on the left side, where he said the chip was.
However, DD is walking normally, is desperate to run & jump and hasn't mentioned any pain.
Do we call the GP tomorrow?
Is there actually anything they'd do? I'm guessing if the chip had been of concern, then we'd have been sent on for a cast or other treatment.
On one hand, I am thinking that if she is not in pain and has full movement there is no point going back.
On the other hand, I don't want her to end up with problems later in life because I didn't do anything.

It often takes a few days for bruising to come up. I don't see any reason to go back to A&E. As you say, if they were concerned about the chip then they would have done something at the time. Keep following the advice they gave you and hopefully it will all be better in a few days :)

Definitely not back to A&E- that would be insane!

Bruising is perfectly normal. If there's a huge change for the worse I'd consider a GP but for the moment it all sounds fine- just follow the instructions from the doctor and give it a while.

Thanks for the grip
I was guilt-tripping myself as I felt responsible in the first place as I'd said it was fine to leave the stuff out that she fell over.
I'll keep an eye on it, and try to persuade her to take it easy!

Flowers no need for a guilt trip. Accidents happen!

Don't go back to a&e. It's not an emergency. They wouldn't put a cast on a 'chip'. Take the advice given to you last night. If it gets more painful or becomes a problem make an appointment with your gp.

I made the mistake of googling 'chipped kneecap' before coming on here to calm down.
I'm not going to A&E.
