How on earth do you get your baby to swallow Calpol?

We have been using a baby syringe but it just comes straight back out. Dd is 23 weeks old and hasn't ever eaten anything other than bm. Think its a shock for her! Any tips?

If BF
With DD i was advised to put the syringe at the side of my nipple and try to get her to kind of latch on with it there and gently give it to her.
Or to put some on my nipple then offer it to her, then pull away after a little bit and add some more

Buy some Nurofen for kids, they come with a smaller syringe. Make sure that you put it to the side of her mouth and don't let her close her mouth until you are sure she has swallowed it.

This might sound silly but its worked with both of ours, the minute you do the syringe bit, do a very quick little massaging action of the neck just either side of the adams apple, it makes them swallow.
A vet gave me that tip for getting a cat to swallow worm tablets - the cat is long gone but I tried it on the babies and it seemed to stop the projectile rejection of calpol!

Not read entire thread so sorry if anyone else has suggested this already. We used a dummy like syringe thing with dd1 - sorry not sure what its called - looked like a dummy but had a wee syringe like bit in the handle that you pushed the medicine through. With dd2 we use a medicine syringe - dd1 used to just spit it straight back out with the syringe.
