Gallbladder pain with no gallbladder

Soooo I'm 9 post op and had a Sunday dinner for tea, didn't eat much of it as still not eating big amounts, about an hour after eating I started to get the awful pain come over me and it was just like the pain I got when I had a gallstone attack. Anyone else had this happen? X

I had this! Unfortunately mine turned into pancreatitis due to a residual stone - and it was only diagnosed 11 months after my gallbladder was removed! It may just be a Phantom pain but if you get it regularly go to your GP and ask for tests. I am fine now - finally feeling better 18 months after gallbladder removed and 5 months after pancreatitis...

Oh god I hope not. Hoping Just a phantom pain but today is the first day I've been out and
About. It was really weird I used to get the pain about 3/4 hours after I'd eaten but this was an hour after 🤔

I am about 6 months post gallbladder op which supposedly was a very easy case and I have (over the last couple of months or so) had a fleeting pain in that area. It lasts just long enough for me to start to get alarmed and then goes! Possibly after high fat meal, been on hols recently. But need to think a bit more to establish the link.

overduemamma · 04/08/2018 14:33

Oh really, I thought the whole point of the surgery was to not have the pain. Really don't want to be paranoid all the time when I've eaten :(

Do you mean you had it out 9 days ago? If so I don't think it's very surprising that you are getting some pain.
I had mine out 3 years ago, I remember thinking I was better after a couple of weeks, but in hindsight it took 2 or 3 months for things to settle down.
There are a lot of horror stories out there but it is a good idea to remember it's such a common operation.

Yeah 9 days ago, I guess i thought was ok as I don't feel too bad considering. It was the first day I had gone out of the house, wondering if I've done too much then gone for a small walk with a full stomach x

Yeah give your body a chance to heal.
Are you still signed off? I remember my surgeon gave me a note for 4 weeks and I was pissed off because I knew work would not be pleased. Looking back though I did need that time.

After my gallbladder removal, I was told it takes about 5-6 months for your body to adjust to not having a gallbladder. Some fleeting pain after a higher fat meal is relatively normal during this.

However, some people can continue to have problems with certain foods and they will need to continue excluding those from their diet. If it continues, maybe keep a food diary to see if anything specific triggers it. (It was haribo, for my friend!)

May be worth a follow up with your go/consultant if you are worried?

*GP not go

overduemamma · 04/08/2018 17:40

Yeah still singed off. I'll of had 3 weeks off when I go back, ahh I see. Lastnight I had a Sunday dinner. Most of it was veg but as I say I went for a short walk afterwards so don't know if it was that that's had upset me. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. It's bloody awful pain though x

I had a "gall bladder pain attack" 12 years after removal. So much so they insisted I had a scan for stones. Person doing the scan shouted : "why are you here ". '''Twas exceptionally annoying.
Unfortunately, I am one of those people for whom the body never adjusted and have to take medication 22 years after the op. I'm sure this won't be you. My sister (similarly diagnosed at a young age) is fine.
Just ease back into normal eating. Wishing you luck

I'm less than a week post op and can only eat tiny amounts before I get a gallbladder like feeling, not a full blown attack but like a background feeling
