What are these blisters? *pic*

Had some odd blisters appear on my finger. It's been itching all morning and suddenly these super itchy blisters have appeared. I'm 27 weeks pregnant so not sure if this could be an obscure symptom... anyone?

I get them with hayfever. BUT I'm not pregnant, so might be worth getting them checked out.

OuchToday · 03/08/2018 15:52

@starfishmummy the only thing I've ever had close is a poison ivy rash which was exactly the same, but we don't have poison ivy around here and I've barely been outside. Don't have any allergies or hay fever. I'm stumped! Seems mad making a docs appointment for 2 weeks to get it checked out...

Pomphlox, or dishydrotic eczema?

picklemepopcorn · 03/08/2018 15:59

Don't scratch, it will get much worse if you do.
Use anti histamine cream, take a tablet, and moisturise regularly. It will dry up and go scaly.

Did I say don't scratch?!

Dljlr · 03/08/2018 16:01

I have those, exact same place and also on the palm of my hand. If I scratch them they weep sticky stuff. I suffered it for years before my GP spotted it at an appointment for something else - it's eczema. He gave me steroid cream and that clears it up in a day or so.

PerverseConverse · 03/08/2018 16:01

Pomphlox. I get them on my feet. Itchy as fuck. Harmless though. They will dry out and the skin flake off. I always pop mine and it reduces the itching.

YeTalkShiteHen · 03/08/2018 16:01

Can you call your midwife? I vaguely remember something about itchy hands or feet being something worth checking out.

Dljlr · 03/08/2018 16:02

Also mine also started whilst I was pregnant, 8 years ago. Still have it though but the cream does chase it away for extended periods. Weird!

PlayingForKittens · 03/08/2018 16:05

Yes it is pomphlox eczema. Itchy fuckers. You'll need to go see the gp and get some cream, most topical steroid creams are fine in pregnancy. They are likely to spread if you don't.

OuchToday · 03/08/2018 16:06

How strange! They itch like fuck! Thinking of boiling a needle and popping them...

Not sure what it is, but a pharmacist should be able to take a look and advise on whether a GP appointment is necessary, or whether you can get anything over-the-counter to help.

OuchToday · 03/08/2018 16:07

@PlayingForKittens do you know if they tend to spread quickly? Off on holiday tomorrow!

OP posts:
picklemepopcorn · 03/08/2018 16:09

They will spread as much as you scratch them! If you are really disciplined they won't.

Over the counter hydrocortisone will do the job. I'd get some in case.

nancy75 · 03/08/2018 16:10

I get this on my fingers every summer, it started about 3 years ago. I think it must be like hay fever for hands because I only get it in the summer & when I go on holiday it vanishes ( I’m in Spain at the moment and it’s totally gone)

PerverseConverse · 03/08/2018 16:15

I have great fun popping mine Grin I get more when stressed. It's only ever on one foot though 🤔 Hope you get some cream for it and have a great holiday!

PlayingForKittens · 03/08/2018 16:45

I didn't scratch mine and pretty soon my hands were giant, tightly packed blisters. I ended up with antibiotics for infected hands and super strong steroid cream. Then my hands peeled off like I'd done footner on them. That was fun. I now only need to use the cream a couple of times a week but if I don't then they come back.

But over the counter hydrocortisone will be fine.

CurlsLDN · 03/08/2018 16:52

I got this in pregnancy and it carried on throughout my baby's first year or so.
I scratched/popped them. One tiny little popped wound got infected, I ended up on IV antibiotics, lost most of the flesh from that finger and nearly lost a hand.

Id recommend the no scratching/gp for cream option as preferable!

TheIsland · 03/08/2018 16:54

I get this. I spoke to a pharmacist who gave me otc cream. Never happened before this year though.

MrsRubyMonday · 03/08/2018 17:57

I always get a flare up when it's hot, have a horrible one on the sole of my left foot at the moment. I love popping them too, but make sure you clean the area well afterwards as I find the fluid from inside can spread them. I then soak a cotton pad in witch hazel and leave it on top for ten minutes to dry them out, then finish with hydrocortisone cream I bought OTC. I try and wash my feet several times throughout the day, wear sandles when possible to let them dry, and antibac my shoes every night, again to avoid spreading them. My most recent outbreak is finally beginning to clear up now, but I've had socks on today so dreading tonights inspection.

distantstars · 03/08/2018 18:06

I've been getting these recently! sooo itchy....but nothing has come out of them!
I have been using steroid cream on a extremely dry patch on the palm of my hand - which keeps cracking and peeling - but the steroid cream has done nothing!

picklemepopcorn · 03/08/2018 18:26

Be careful with popping the big ones- they can get very deep. Try releasing a little pressure but not fully draining them that gives the skin underneath time to grow,

PerverseConverse · 03/08/2018 20:14

Here's my current outbreak on the sole of my foot. I've also got a big one of the side of the ball of my foot, new ones on the outer edge, and a healing toe where I had several big ones that all melded together, dried then came off in a big flake. Very satisfying! The sole of my foot is sore and very itchy so off to find some cream for it. I'm guessing the heat has made it worse in combination of recent stress and illness.

I get these breakouts all the time to varying degrees. So damned itchy. Step up your hand hygiene as I know being lax about drying between my fingers really does aggravate it. It's a lovely feeling once the sticky stage ends and it starts drying out. I wouldnt recommend lancing anything with a needle due to risk of infection.
