Squishy movable lump in cheek

Hi all

About 3 months ago I yawned and rubbed the side of my face and thought I felt a little bump. I put my thumb inside my mouth and index on outer cheek and discovered a squishy lump that feels fluid filled/ like jelly inside the wall of my cheek.

It is not visible to the eye from looking inside my cheek or the outside of my cheek.

I went to docs and he said they 'needed to put a name to it' so referred me to maxillofacial unit. My appointments is in two weeks.

A couple of weeks ago I found out I was pregnant

I am now a nervous wreck thinking I may have cancer/ tumour in my cheek. I'm thinking it could also be swollen lymph node which a cause can often be cancer.

If I go to my appointment and they're concerned will I be able to have any scans? Seeing as I'm pregnant?

I can't stop worrying

I can understand you are scared, especially if the GP said nothing to make you feel better. But it could just be a lipoma, which is a fatty lump. I have a big lump on my leg and have been referred for an ultrasound, to help diagnose if it's benign or not. So that could be an option for you in pregnancy.
In the meantime, big hug and a handhold until you get seen.

The closest lymph nodes would normally be in your neck, not your cheek.

I understand that being pregnant (congratulations btw!) has heightened your concern, but the incidence of oral cancer in women of childbearing age is very, very low

Oral Cancer Incidence

If you look at the table in that report, the rate for women aged 30-39 is about 2 cases per 100,000 people per year.

My guess is that if they do anything at all, they'll take a biopsy. Please do not panic about this.

Hug and handhold from me too. Flowers

Thank you for reassuring messages. I didn't realise they could do ultrasound as a scan. Hopefully they can do that. I saw a dentist this week and they didn't know what it was either which made me even more anxious.

Just want my appointment to get here already so I can get some answers (hopefully) xxx
