Night time leg(calf) cramps and twinges

Ive been experiencing night time leg cramps since I was 14 years old. Cramping in one calf at a time. It doesn't happen every night.

Throughout the years, I noticed they come and go in spells. I could have weeks with no cramps, then wake with a cramp and that would happen most nights for a period of time.

There isn't a lot a doctor can do. I found relief in a magnesium supplement where I take it before bed.

Silly me, I didn't take my magnesium over the past week. I woke up Tuesday morning with a cramp in my left leg (calf). Not unusual for me.

I've been experiencing something since Tuesday morning. Crampy twinges in my calf. It feels as if it's the start of a cramp but it's just a twinge lasting a second or two. Experiencing this often throughout the day since Tuesday morning.

Has anyone else ever experienced the twinges?

Yes! When lying in bed, most nights, if I stretch my leg I get the beginnings of cramp. I always dread a full blown attack of cramp because it's so sodding painful. When I feel the twinge I have to get up (dislodging my cat in the process) and move around. I also get stabbing/tingling pains in my hands and feet throughout the day and wondered if it was connected to the cramp twinges.

Cloudy,

Thanks for your reply. I had great luck with a magnesium supplement if you want to give that a go for cramps.

The twinges in the calf are only very new for me. Since Tuesday anyways. I slept last night with my legs raised and heat pad on the cushions located at the end of the bed for having my legs raised. I was afraid going to bed in case I woke with a cramp. All went well over night and no cramp in my leg/s.

Woke and got up this morning and twinges have definitely reduced. I'm still getting them though. I had a look at my leg for any sort of discoloration and there's red/blue/bruise marks in case it's something to do with circulation.

I'm supposed to be flying tomorrow night and I'm afraid now in case anything serious happens.

I'm definitely going to try magnesium. We're you planning to wear flight sock for your flight? Not very glam but they might help.

My mum has this but drinks a small glass of tonic water every night and tells me that it makes a difference.

I always wake up in the night with a cramp in one of my legs if I haven’t had enough to drink during the day. That might not be helpful to you, but could you be dehydrated?

I do have flight socks. It's not from a scholl but they are store brand flight socks. Hopefully they will do the job. It's only a short flight and not long haul. About two and half hours.

I can't stand the taste of tonic water.

I had this and found they went with Feroglobin - think magnesium in but did need to take daily or they came back. They have now stopped.

I think I was dehydrated with the heatwave a few weeks ago. I have hydration tablets now but it's been a few weeks since I took a hydration tablet. I will take another tablet now actually to see if that helps
