Unusually heavy, painful period :(

I’ve never suffered with heavy or painful periods in my life. Since being 13, I’ve only ever had a medium flow at worst and a bit of cramping the day before and the first day of my period.
Period was 3 days late as of yesterday, and I woke up at 2 this morning looking like I’d been attacked from the waist down with a machete Confused Blood everywhere.
Cleaned myself up and popped my mooncup in. Had to get up once more around 5am to empty mooncup which was full to the brim. Then the pain really started. A really strong kind of period cramp, radiating across my lower tummy and round my back. Never felt period pain like it before. Emptied full mooncup again at 7:30am, then again about 20 mins ago.
Usually I can go a good 7-8 hours without needing to empty it, and it’s normally not full at that point.
I’ve taken paracetamol and am currently curled up on the sofa with a microwaveable squishy teddy bear on my tummy Sad and it’s not touching the pain.
What could be causing such a heavy period and pain?!
This is very very unusual for me.

That sounds like a lot of blood..maybe you should go see a doctor?

Is there any possibility at all you could be pregnant? If so, remove your mooncup and use disposable pads so you can keep an eye on the loss.

Whether this is a miscarriage or something else, if you fill a pad in less than an hour you need medical help.

MyBreadIsEggy · 30/07/2018 11:07

Imnotaslimjim I’ll send DH out for pads - haven’t got any in the house.
We use condoms during my fertile window, so there’s a slim chance of pregnancy - no slip ups since DC2 was born.
I’ll call my GP anyway as this is unusual for me Confused

Ouch OP : ( I would usually say for anything out of the ordinary, speak to your GP. Or you could call 111 and they may get you in touch with a nurse.

Agree with taking your mooncup out so you can check the loss.

In the mean time I would suggest Paracetamol and then ibuprofen two hours later, so you're interchanging them IYSWIM. You could also try co-codamol.

I’m sorry to worry you but I’d go down to A&E asap - ectopic pregnancy was the first thing that came to mind. You say the pain goes round your back, is there any in your shoulder blade?

MyBreadIsEggy · 30/07/2018 11:48

Imsorry not up to the shoulder - more lower back. I usually do feel mild period pain in my lower back, but this is way worse than usual
