Diarrhea in a Five-year-old

DS1 woke yesterday complaining about feeling warm. Later on, he had diarrhea.

He's still eating, but not much. He doesn't seem particularly unwell, not feverish or anything.

Should I bother with Dioralyte? Low fibre diet? Or just wait it out?

Just keep his fluids up, water or weak juice, he doesn't need diarolyte yet I don't think. And avoid milk.
Give it 24 hours and then see the doctor if he still has diarrhea

He's already had milk - wanted cereal for breakfast, and a glass of milk on the side. (At that point, he hadn't yet pooed this morning, so I was hoping things had settled down.)

Strangely, he was passing yellow liquid last night , but today it was more like normal loose stools ...

Oh, and I should probably say, my stomach isn't feeling right, and I'm (very unusually) not hungry at all for breakfast.

Maybe worth calling the docs to get him checked out. It might just be a bug and ill pass soon enough, but if it's something you've both eaten, then that could be a bit more serious.

Poor mite....tummy bugs and stomach cramps are horrible!

DaisysGotSausageFeet · 31/05/2007 08:09

oops...that should have said "it'll pass"

NotQuiteCockney · 31/05/2007 08:36

No, I don't think it's food poisoning - I think it's a bug, but one I've caught too, maybe?

He's now totally fine. Full of beans.

This morning's poo was more of a loose movement than total diarrhea.

I know I can't send him in. But god he's going to drive me mental today.

My DS did that last week....at deaths door with a chest infection at 7:00am...by about 11:00 he was jumping around the furniture being a power ranger and driving me bonkers!

I think I am going to send him in, tbh. He is too full of energy, and wants to go. I'll go get him again if he goes off colour, but he really does seem fine, and ate a normal breakfast.
