dd has another virus, on the becotide, ventolin, singulair and prednisolone and atrovent but is still wheezing and gasping a little.. dr has said to keep an eye on her, but her breathing rate is now 45-50 per min. should we go to a and e or call an ambulance?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 30/05/2007 18:17

I would

(I don't understand the breathing rate but if she can't say a sentence I would)

Twiglett · 30/05/2007 18:17

give her more ventolin though

WelshBoris · 30/05/2007 18:18

This is so shit Allie.

Yes call an ambulance, hope she's OK let us know xx

Twiglett · 30/05/2007 18:19

I mean whilst you are waiting for ambulance (they carry nebulisers)

Twiglett · 30/05/2007 18:19

I had an ambulance called on me when I couldn;t breathe .. most embarrassing, most necessary

don't dick around with breathing

Mercy · 30/05/2007 18:21

Spacer and more Ventolin.

If no improvement then 999

NuttyMuffins · 30/05/2007 18:29

We always went on the guide that if Dd could not say a short sentance without having to stop and gasp for air then she needed seeing.

Katymac · 30/05/2007 18:30

I would get her to hosp/Dr surgery asap

Hope she feels better soon

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/05/2007 18:30

Call ambulance. She'll get seen to quicker by triage etc.

ledodgy · 30/05/2007 18:31

Call an ambulance. I hope she gets better soon.

Deffo. You can give at least 10 puffs with a spacer and I have on occassion given more. Did GP prescribe all that. I am surprised as if DS needed Prednisolone they would suggest a visit to hosp. Never heard of atrovent.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/05/2007 18:33

Sucks though, I know.

DD had an asthma exacerbation last week. Had to double up on steroids, becotide, serevent and got through loads of ventolin.

Thankfully the prednisalone kicked in after a few hours or we would have had to take her to A & E.

Each and every time is a worry - I do sympathise. Poor DD.

Atrovent is one that tends to be prescribed for younger children, IIRC???

Katymac · 30/05/2007 21:53

How is she?

hello all. we have just got home from addenbrookes hosp. i called 999 in the end. her sats were 88 and she spent the night on oxygen. was a little miffed with my GP. she had a chest x ray, which in their words was " a mess" wwe have another new inhaler and dreaded anti-b's which she has gobbed everywhere. she has had 6 or 7 courses of steroids since the end of march so they have had to urine test for raised glucose. Thanks for all your advise. From now on I will just trust my own judgement (oh and all yours of course )

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 01/06/2007 19:55

oh allie - poor you and dd. Glad you are home. 88 is low, isn't it?

have they given her a follow up appointment with a consultant? sounds like she could do with seeing someone with a more indepth understanding of her asthma.

misdee · 01/06/2007 19:59

allie, has she gone through any further testing. this really doesnt seem right in terms of asthma poor you and her

allieBongo · 01/06/2007 20:05

thanks guys. we were under a specialist at west suffolk, but we have moved to one at cambridge now as they were much better. she will be followed up there, and we saw their specialist today. deffo asthma, but not allergy related, she is just at the age where she picks everything up, and apparently will need short courses of steroids regularly. we have a new inhaler called serovent and the montelukast so will give that a go. i'm just a bit peeved that she got that bad when i had seen the gp twice who said her chest was clear...

alibobins · 01/06/2007 20:57

Poor dd

Ds has been on seritide which I think is the same for about 6 months now is it purple.

He is still on a permenant low dose of abs three times a week and this has helped loads. It might be worth mentioning to consultant.

Hope she gets better soon.

allieBongo · 01/06/2007 20:57

thanks love x

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/06/2007 21:08

DD is on serevent too. (green one?)

It works well, and its not a steroid as such.

Glad she is better.

Always with asthma - if in doubt 999.

WelshBoris · 01/06/2007 21:11

Glad she's improved.

I need a new job as I hate mine, but I'm too afraid to change because DD is ill so often my present employers are used to it. Doubt new ones would be.
