Hi, first time mummy here, so sorry if this sounds silly! But my son is due his 8 weeks jabs soon, i wondered when i would be best to give him calpol to help control his temperature... before, straight after, at bed time?? I'm so unsure!
TIA! SmileX

Mine had hers last week. I was told to do it straight after, once baby settles. Then another dose 4-6 hours later and a 3rd does another 4-6 hours after that. The nurse gave me a leaflet about it.

dementedpixie · 22/07/2018 21:16

Nhs says to give it after the 8 week jabs due to MenB causing fever.

kernowsailor · 22/07/2018 21:19

We gave the first dose straight after (whilst still in the nurses room)

Thank you!! It feels like a mine field! Shock he is so hot with this weather at the min anyway, i'm dreading when he gets a temperature with the jabs! X

From the leaflet found online:

A total of three doses of 2.5ml
(60mg) of paracetamol are
recommended following MenB
vaccination. You should give the
first dose at the time of vaccination
or as soon as possible afterwards.
You should then give the second
dose of paracetamol around four
to six hours later and a third dose
four to six hours after that (see
table). The 2.5ml dose should be
measured and given either using
a syringe or with a 2.5ml spoon
(this is usually the small end of the
spoon that comes in the pack).

I gave my little one a dose just before we went in. Calpol says to only give so many doses but my health visitor and nurse who gave the jabs reassured me to keep him topped up incase his temp spiked. He was fine anyway just slept all the next day.

PipsM · 24/07/2018 17:28

We had ours today and the nurse gave him the Calpol there and then after the jabs.

Jaks6740 · 24/07/2018 19:26

Ahh thank you, i did ask the health visitor but she wasn't ever so helpful. Il pack it with me to take the doctors X

You can give it whilst in the room with the nurse or when you get home, as soon after the injections as possible really. It is because the men b is a live vaccine and causes temperatures in babies for up to 18 hours. You'll need to give calpol ASAP after immunisations then 4-6 he later and again 4-6 hr after that. You should not need to give more, if you feel you do then see a gp as it is not the menB causing the temperature at that point.
If baby is sleeping at 4hr, leave them but it must be given by 6 hr do if sleeping still then wake to give it so temperature doesn't break through.
I give babies their immunisations (I'm on maternity leave at the moment but I'm a practice nurse) and this is the advice we give.

I understand, thank you so much for advising, you've been so helpful! Thank you! SmileSmileSmile

Men B isn't a live vaccine, practice nurse here.

Can I jump on this thread?! (Sorry)!!

My DD had her 8 weeks imms today and has had her 3 sets of calpol since. It's been 45 minutes since last dose and her temp is now 37.5 (which is higher than before) Should I be concerned? She's incredibly sleepy but can be roused if needed. Isn't interested in bottles but I managed to give her 1.5oz 45'mins ago. It is warm but she's only in a short sleeve vest no covers etc, we have the window open but she's away from it. Is there anything I should do or look out for? I'm not going to be able to sleep with fear!

@winnerwinnerchristmasdinner how is she now?
