DH has come home from work and made appt to see gp.
We think its prob stress .
he has chest pain, lethargy, racing heart palpatations to name a few.Its happened before but he has agreed to see gp at 5 50 today.
Of note his mum had quite bad hypothyroidism first diagnosed when she was about 40.
He is going to ask gp to check anyway, but when i googled it he does seem to have pretty much all the symptoms-so am just wondering if it runs in families ?

I think it depends on it's cause. My mum has hypothyroidism caused by autoimmune thyroid disease, something to do with having antibodies which attack the thyroid gland. This can be hereditary and while my thyroid levels are fine, blood tests have shown that I have a higher than normal level of antibodies like my mum so have to get my levels checked regularly.

My mum has been told that you can have a genetic to this and some other auto immune conditions such as lupus. They have never confirmed it to be hereditary, but a def predisposition. In my maternal line i have a mother with lupus, two aunts with hyperthyroidism and also a grandmother with this. I have been tested but need to go again....

Thanks both.
Im not sure why she has it but hopefully gp will agree to a test. I dont think hes ever met my dh and hes been registered with our gp for 19 years so its not like hes a regular or anything ! In a way i hope it is his thyroid because then there would be a reason why hes become so like he is over the last few years.

Yes there can if it's caused by autoimmune issues. Strangely in our family it flips in each generation from hypo to hyper. We are also beset with other auto-immune issues. But I'm sure the GP will check - with it being in his family history with him presenting with that list of symptoms I should think they will run a batch of bloods, thyroid included. Hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about.
