Posterior vitreous detachment

Anyone got this or any (non-scary) info about it?

I have it in both eyes. Not really noticed any obvious floaters but noticed a flash in my left eye when I move it. I have had it about 6 weeks. I have had eyes dilated and a good look inside and it was obvious straight away. I have been advised what to look for re retinal detachment but am slightly worried.

Looking back I did have some funny vision thing in right eye a couple of months ago, kind of like very faint shadows in the corner of the room but they went when I looked at them, I think these might have been the cobweb floaters that the optician saw.

Trying not to panic about the future and my eyesight, will this just calm down and stay the same from now on?

Is it just an ageing thing?

Hello Lonerica! I am in exactly the same boat as you, almost to the day! Good to hear from you and others on this thread.

Did your consultant give you any advice about this? Mine said no heavy weights or straining myself for the time being but he was very unclear and his advice was confusing. Having Googled I don't know what the best thing to do is, so am just doing low impact stuff eg Callanetics, Lotte Berk and brisk walking with my Fitbit. It's a bit boring as I live weights and hardcore cardio 😢😢 but I'm seeing it as an opportunity to try something new.

Agree you stop worrying after a while! Have it in both eyes, one 'went' the year after the other. When the second went my main thought was: oh no, I'll never see a clear blue sky again (had been closing affected eye). I have single large floaters in both eyes with associated gloopy clouds. It swirls murkily around. (Most people don't notice floaters after a while I'm told.) I was told it was from the thicker vitreous ring around the optic nerve. No one made any promises, and no, they haven't got smaller though my brain makes them less intrusive. Even so... is there anything new on getting rid of these? I've had them about 7-8 years, and things might have progressed. I never think to ask the optician, even though I need several stabs at the 'how many lights are flashing' test because fainter lights get lost in the murk.

SweatyCat and others who have had PVD. How are you doing now? I went to eye casualty last Thursday, 2 days ago, and was diagnosed.

I started to notice a shadowy thing in the outer edge of my left eye and floaters, although they are very feint. My retinas are fine which is a relief. I am -10 px so knew I was higher risk of that.

Anyway, I have woken up today with what seems like conjunctivitis. Itchy, oozing eyes but no change in vision. Is that common after having them pulled about? I have rung eye casualty but could only leave a message so am waiting for them to call back.
