Private endocrinologist (possible hypothyroidism) recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good endocrinologist in London? I want to get a full range of tests to check for hypothyroidism. GP will only test TSH. Thanks in advance!

Have you got the results from a TSH test?

PinkGlitter22 · 15/07/2018 13:42

Yes, TSH is 1.48 which I think is within the normal range. But think you can still have hypothyroidism with normal TSH?

1.48 is very very much in the normal range. The range is usually 1 through to 4 with anything below 1 being investigated as hyperthyroidism

If you were to be givin thyroxine then that could push you into hyper and would be dangerous for your heart

A TSH of 1.48tells you only that your pituitary is not being asked to stimulate your thyroid into producing the thyroid hormones you need to stay alive. Usually this is because you have satisfactory levels of thyroid hormone, but not always.

If you have central, or secondary, hypothyroidism, your TSH will be low, but so will your thyroid hormones, so yes, you are right to look for more information about your thyroid status.

You can get all the tests done through Medichecks and people on here or on the ThyroidUK forum will interpret them for you.

Thanks timeistight that's really helpful to have that confirmed and for the suggestion to go to Medichecks. I should be able to get the tests done quickly there and then post on MN for interpretation of the results.

@timeistight

At whatTSH level would you expect the thyroid to be stimulated into producing thyroxine then?

TSH doesn't tell you that much. As a previous poster said, get a full thyroid panel done via Medichecks, including vitamin D, B12, folate and ferritin. The four key vitamins/minerals for optimal thyroid function.
