I'm terrified. I've got a hernia and the doctor is booking an ultrasound to see what type it is but I've no idea what the process is once that's happened. I'm imagining horrible things like surgery and I'm not keen on hospitals (who is??) Please can someone who's been through it talk me through it. Thank you Flowers

Have done a lot of research into this topic as my partner thought he had a hernia(he also has a severe medical phobia), turned out to be a weak muscle, not yet a hernia. From my research and visits to the doctor with him, I can assure you it's one of the most if not the most common operation people have in this country and worldwide. The doctor we spoke to said it would be keyhole and really univasive, you do have to have a good rest aftwards but really you could look at that as a sort of treat really, line up some nice movies and boxsets for your recovery and try not to worry. Best wishes and good luck x

Thank you for replying. My doctor didn't explain much and I was too worried to ask (odd I know). How much recovery time does it require (2 small children = no down time!)

I have a unbilical hernia. Had a scan and decided it didn't need surgery. They don't always need surgery.

We were told 1-2 weeks for returning work, but you don’t want to be doing heavy lifting and proper strenuous things for about 6-8 weeks he said. I imagine child care would be fine as long as you’re not going out doing sports or lifting them when you cant manage it.

Generallyok is right they don’t always require surgery! Smile

If it doesn't require surgery what happens? You can see mine sticking out of my tummy when I stand up 🤮
