Blood in Urine

Hi all, just had some confusing info from my gp so was looking for some advice. Noticed some blood in my urine last weekend (only happened once and returned to normal within a couple of hours) went to my GP the following day who said she would request a two week referral. They took a sample and a blood test., they called back today and said that my referral had been downgraded to regular rather than urgent because both tests came back normal and I do not meet the urgent criteria. Was slightly surprised to hear this as it was not mentioned at my initial appointment that it could change. The blood only appeared after I went running which I know can be a cause, but not sure if I need to seek a second opinion or not considering this was originally seen as urgent and don't think the blood tests can really prove anything either way! Don't really want to wait months for an appointment if there is something sinister going on. I'm 34 and a non smoker btw

2ww referrals are for suspected cancer. Based on the info in your post, aged 34 and having never smoked you're vanishingly unlikely to have cancer. If there was no blood in the sample they did then that should be reassuring. Based on the above you don't meet the NICE criteria for 2ww referral for either bladder or renal cancer (which doesn't mean you don't need to be seen, just means it's not 'cancer urgent'). I'd sit tight & go back to the GP if it happens again...or if you really don't want to wait then splash some cash and ask for a private referral.

Agree with PP, also blood tests would likely show an abnormality if there was something suspect (i.e. anaemia). Chances are it was a one off but if it keeps happening go back to your GP
