I am drinking for england - litres a day lemonade/tea/fruit juice/ribena

I pass out when I drink more than a small glass of water

I crave salt

Dr insists I am not diabetic and says it is normal

I don't think it is normal

What do I do now - I can't ask to see a consultant as I don't know who/what I need to see

Any ideas??

Did he check your blood sugar?

belgo · 27/05/2007 20:28

what do you mean you pass out when you drink more then a glass of water?

And what happens when you drink other drinks?

elasticbandstand · 27/05/2007 20:29

how is your bp

noddyholder · 27/05/2007 20:29

It sounds like hypoadrenalism/addisons?Do you have any other health issues?

elasticbandstand · 27/05/2007 20:30

have you been tested for diabetes then?
you can do thse t boots i think.

what answers does gp have?

foxinsocks · 27/05/2007 20:30

I have no idea - don't know much about diabetes but if you search for a poster's thread (her name is/was 7up), she has a child with something called diabetes insipidus (may have spelt that wrong) which meant he drank loads and loads but the normal tests for diabetes didn't flag anything up. Have no idea if adults can get it.

Katymac · 27/05/2007 20:31

Yep - blood sugar (wee & blood) both borderline but "fine"

Water is (& has been for a while) a big problem, half a pint or so & I get lightheaded & dizzy - more and I can go over

Blood Pressure is low (always has been)

has he checked out diabetis insipidus?

MerryMarigold · 27/05/2007 20:33

What do you mean you pass out if you drink water? Saym you have a cup of tea and some water afterwards, fo you pass out? Or if you are feeling dodgy and then only drink water not a sweet drink? Don't understand as all the drinks you mention are mostly water...

mears · 27/05/2007 20:33

you should not have any sugar in your urina at all unless pregnant.

Blood sugar hiher than 9 should be followed up

jackie2kids · 27/05/2007 20:33

Do you mean a small glass of wine?

If so I am also becoming depressingly intolerent to alcohol, which I'd put down to chronic sleep depravation. I also feel constantly thirsty.

I didn't think it was common to develop diabetes as an adult until you are elderly or unless you are very overweight.

NeverEndingPileOfLaundry · 27/05/2007 20:39

Is there any way you could ask to see a different doctor to get a second opinion? It depends on your GP surgery set up thougho though - it would probably be easier to defy the force of gravity than see someone other than my own GP.

Katymac · 27/05/2007 20:39

I tend not to drink water after a sweet drink (iyswim)

I don't know

I never drink alcohol - it makes me so ill the next day

I used to be a size 22 but over 4 yrs dropped to a size 14

I do have a very sweet diet - but I try not to muck about with it too much as I have IBS

I used to have ME/CFS which is why I was so heavy - but that has been in remission for years now

elasticbandstand · 27/05/2007 20:42

so hav eyou had blood tests?

Katymac · 27/05/2007 20:43

For diabetes - yes

goingfor3 · 27/05/2007 20:45

If you are worried about being diabetic you could buy yourself a blood sugar monitor from Boots for about £15, record your results and take them to your GP.

Sugary drinks will make you more thirsty which is probably why you drink so many of them. If you can't manage water then just drink tea without any sugar and cut out the other drinks.

jackie2kids · 27/05/2007 20:45

Poor you.

You should try another Dr. Or call NHS Direct, they might match your symptoms to something.

I really should pack in drink altogether.

Katymac · 27/05/2007 20:51

Diabetes Insipidus - that article was great

It mentioned the Hypothalmus (not just the pituatary as other articles have) - the Hypothalmus was where all my problems with the ME were.

All my ME stuff was Hypothalmus related - so if this is hypothalmus related it is just a flare up of the ME & I know how to deal with it

Thanks Guys

I feel SO MUCH better
