Hi
I am writing for my daughter who is 22, she has recently had stomach problems that the doctors have suggested may be intolerance related, she is on the low fodmap diet (she's miserable) but doing it non the less, does seem to help.

The thing that is really bothering her at the moment is the recurring bastard thrush.
Its really getting her down, its been over 8 months now and all the doctors do is say cut down her sugar (really don't think she can cut out any more) and give her the same tablets over and over again.
I cant remember the name of them, they begin with an 'F'
I have been looking to see if there are any other things she could try but there is an amazing array of home remedies, herbal remedies, Pessaries (Boric Acid).
I think if she could get rid of the thrush she could cope better with the low fod map and bloating stuff
Any suggestions gladly received.

Wild Greek oregano oil would be worth a try.

I bought Zane Hellas Wild Greek Oregano Oil on eBay and it worked really well for a fungal infection (not thrush). I read the reviews on Amazon first and have seen good reviews for candida. It is very strong so must be diluted. I now take it at the first sign of a sore throat and am rarely ill despite working with small children. You can also buy as soft gels which might be easier to take.

Books such as Michael Mosley's Clever Guts Diet are well worth a read for anyone with stomach problems.

I would recommend she sees a private nutritionist who specialises in digestive problems. Not a dietitian, a nutritionist. Maybe someone with a qualification from the institute of optimum nutrition,

A tampon soaked in natural yoghurt will help topically.

Look up Horopito Anise made by kolorex. It's supposed to be more effective than difflucan. Also grapefruit seed extract and caprylic acid.

Intolerance tests are availabke from Cambridge and York labs. Ime they do help. It can be difficult to identify intolerances as it's very common to be intolerant to more than one thing.

Tell her to take probiotics which don't contain fos, as the fos cause bloating.

Cut down on caffeine. Avoid artificial sweeteners.

I forgot to say. No alcohol either. Basically live like a monk I'm afraid.

So sorry she's suffering. I hope she can find a balance in all things.

Nothing useful to add. Watching with interest as have IBS and an odd relation with sugar.

Thank you. I suffer from excema but never thought of it 'down there'
I think a referral to gyne would be a great thing for her, she is totally fed up, they do swobs at the doctors, they say it's thrush, they prescribe the same thing then she does it all again when it's not worked.
They say it's diet related but I really don't think there is anything else she can cut out (no dairy, no sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol, no gluten) she has just had blood test results back which has said she is low in B12, don't know if this means anything or not.
I really feel for her, just hoping something works.
Thank you for all your replies, I have linked this thread to her and she keeps looking in at work. Smile
