DERMATITIS.... CAN OLIVE OIL HELP?

My 6 month old has patches of dermatitis on his chin, neck, back of his legs and cracks of his ankles. We've tried every lotion, potion on the market, and creams including hydrocortison and they all work for a few days but then it reappears. Has anybody tried olive oil and been successful? Doc says it will clear up when he can sit up straight and get more air to it but in the meantime he looks like a burn victim under his chin, v upsetting. Ideas welcome.

i have got 3 ds's and they have all had dermatitis, each in the places you were describing. also went through lots of potions including steriod creams to manuka honey.
i stopped using soap in bath and used only tiny amount of beaming baby shampoo bodywash or green people helped as they have no sls's or parabens.
i tried olive oil in desperation on my ds3 (he got it on the back of knees )and it made it worse.
what i found works is bathing every 2-3 days with a little unrefined seasalt as heard many cases of when on warm seaside holiday it clears up - plenty of exposure to the sun/fresh air and the sea
aveeno cream has definately helped - we put on a light layer after bath and then cover (i think you can sometimes get this on prescription) i would then let as much fresh air on it during the day then cover at night to avoid scratching - i managed to get some soft cotton tights to help.
my ds2 got it badly under his chin as he use to dribble profusely. i bought lots of spotty hankerchiefs and tied them around him durign the day to catch the drool and keep him dry
the main thing is time - lots of patience and it sorts itself out. all 3 have lovely skin now.

another thought is could the washing powder/clothing be irritating him? my ds2's rash appeared after i had put a woolly jumper on him.
it did take about 6 months before it completely cleared as he would rub/scratch just when it began to heal
