What was this leg pain in my teen?

So today my 13yo daughter had terrible pain in the side and front of her legs. She says they've been twingy and uncomfortable since Wednesday when her period started but today she seemed in agony. She couldn't sit still it hurt so much. Paracetamol and nurofen eventually kicked in and the pain went and didn't return. Anyone experienced that before?!

My did had similar. Dr said it's usually due to bones, muscles and ligaments growing at different rates so the muscles are stretched.

Likely to be growing pains, I had them at that age and they are not fun. As PP said, it's the muscles and ligaments being stretched by her bones growing really quickly. Apparently magnesium spray helps, as does a cherry stone bag on the affected area.

Hope it gets better for her soon.

Thanks both, I did wonder about growing pains. Hopefully she's done her growing for the week now!

Is it her thighs? I don’t get it as bad anymore but when I was younger my thighs used to really ache in a horrible, irritating way every time I was on my period. They felt sort of dead but restless all at the same time. I’d get it (and still do from time to time) in the middle of my period when it was heaviest. Could possibly be linked?

Yes, her thighs and she said they felt restless! Good to know you mostly grew out of it. Thanks!

Growing pain, or Osgood slatters, I think it's called. It's when the bones are growing so quickly that the ligaments can't keep up. DS2 had it, plus he had it in his feet too, so needed to see a podiatrist for support things in his shoes. He is very tall.
