Tacrolimus / Pimecrolimus for eczema

Has anyone had any experience of using these new non steroid drugs for eczema? The dermatologist has suggested pinecrolimus for my 10 month old ds who has had severe eczema since he was 3 weeks old. I'm a bit wary though as there no way to know what the long term effects are.

Haven't go time to list all the things we've tried already but includes lots of alternative and diet related therapies as well as wet wrapping and potent steroids but nothing stops the flare up.

Thanks for any info.

CER,

I don't have personal experience of using pimecrolimus, but as part of my job I have seen all the study results including internal expert reports etc about it, as well as learning a lot about what else is available. My conclusion from reading all this stuff and hearing it discussed in a non-sales situation by the company who make it is that I personally would definitely give pimecrolimus a try if my child had bad eczema.

I am not an employee of Novartis, by the way, just a mum with small kids of her own. If you want any more info, such as on what safety studies have found, I'd be happy to help - get Mumsnet to pass your e-mail address on to me.

Hi Cer , we have used tacromilus cream on our toddler, it was prescribed after we had tried literally every other treatment. My husband tried it too and he thought it brilliant (he has had eczema all his life), unfortunatly it was difficult to use on my toddler as any treated skin needs to be protected from sunlight and as we live in Southern Spain, that wasnt easy to achieve. Happily, his eczema cleared up anyway. I would definatley give it a go, it is apparently miraculous for some sufferers.

Thanks bunny2 it's reassuring to hear your experience. Azzie, we're moving all over the place at the moment so I'm only getting to log on about once a week if I'm lucky but I'd still really love to chat. Am I doing the right thing to get my dh's address to you. I'm going through the moderators? I'll try again but if anyone knows of a different way I should be doing it please let me know.
