Bunnybutton · 02/07/2018 13:45

I've been up since very early this morning for an appointment 3 hours away , because of traffic I didn't get a chance to eat until 1:pm ( I haven't had breakfast ).

I was so hungry my tummy hurt , the second I got to the motorway services I walked to the entrance and I felt really sick and weak , as I got in I sat down and felt like I was going to vomit , I felt all sweaty .
My dad said I looked pale and just at that moment i had to put my head down , my dad caught my head and I all of a sudden had no energy to speak or move I was limp..
My breathing became heavy and fast I was sweating and tears rolled down my face . ( I never lost consciousness )
Then I felt slightly better , the staff came over and gave me water and food .
I couldn't eat properly as it felt like I was going to vomit still ....
What on earth happend ???

Did you eat yesterday, OP?

TheCosmicOwl · 02/07/2018 13:52

Sounds like you fainted, and being hungry was probably a contributing factor!

I also think the heat doesn't help.

TheCosmicOwl · 02/07/2018 13:54

And could you have been dehydrated too? That probably wouldn't help.

Bunnybutton · 02/07/2018 15:37

Yes I ate yesterday I thought when you fainted you lost consciousness ? , it's happend a few times to me before , once when I was 10 weeks pregnant at work I instantly came over all weak and had terrible nausea and had to sit on the floor , and another time It was coming up to lunch time and the same happend on those occasions I was hungry but not as hungry as today ... Also I don't think it helps being low in iron 😒😒😒
I've had water + haven't been in the sun much today as I've been in a car and hospital

Sound quite like my panic attacks with the struggling to breathe... could it be that?

gamerchick · 02/07/2018 15:40

Yeah I get a bit sick and shaky when my blood sugar's aren't happy. Something sweet perks you up lovely until a chance to get something properly. Make sure you're drinking enough.

Twotabbycats · 02/07/2018 15:48

Happens to me if blood sugar gets too low... it's tricky because you need to eat but you feel sick so you don't want to eat! So it's better if you don't get to that stage. If you have to do this again I would grab a yoghurt or cereal bar to eat in the car (unless I have misunderstood and you were fasting for the hospital appointment).

Gottokondo · 02/07/2018 15:53

It could be low blood sugar, try to eat something with carbs in the morning.

strawberrypenguin · 02/07/2018 15:54

Sounds like your blood sugar dropped too low. Can make you feel weird for a while after.

MizCracker · 02/07/2018 15:56

You had a near faint. You fell just short of actually losing consciousness, but everything you describe is a classic faint - the nausea, dizziness, clammy sweatiness etc.

NickMyLipple · 02/07/2018 15:59

It's called a presyncope. I've had them before. Food and water usually sorts you out.

AdaColeman · 02/07/2018 16:03

It sounds as though it could have been caused by a combination of several things, not eating so your blood sugars have got very low, the hot weather (was the car hot?), low iron, worry & stress about hospital, being dehydrated.

Take things slowly for the next couple of days, drink plenty of fluids, eat small but frequent meals, rest as much as you can, keep cool.
It sounds as though you are a little prone to this type of thing so do mention it to your GP so he can put your mind at rest.

Perhaps carry an emergency fruit/grain bar in your bag to eat when getting a little hungry?

Hope you soon feel tickety-boo Bunnybutton.

Bunnybutton · 02/07/2018 16:20

Thanks everyone for your advice , I had a blood test 2 weeks ago ( fasting blood test )
And my iron levels were low and he said my blood sugar was low also but he was quick to say I shouldn't worry about the blood sugar .... Maybe I should be worried .

I'm prone to becoming dizzy apon standing and doing stuff above my head eg. Rolling a blind up with my hands , also I come over all tired and have to sleep .

The car was lovely and cool ( air con)
And my dad has been driving .

I've been napping on and off for the last 3 hours since it happened . I'm almost home and plan to go straight to the sofa 😩😂.

Thanks again xx

I am a fainter, and there is absolutely no way I would go without breakfast, unless I absolutely had to. I have to eat at regular intervals and if I can't for some reason, I bring cereal bars everywhere with me (they last months without going off).
If you think about it, going without breakfast is the worst because of the number of hours since your last meal.
Also, dehydration starts 24hrs before it you feel the ill-effects.
So if you had a busy day yesterday or were out in the sun, then went without breakfast today, then Boom, it'll hit you quite badly.

Silvercatowner · 02/07/2018 19:06

I bet you have low blood pressure. Unless you have diabetes, your body has effective mechanisms for regulating blood sugar.

I used to get this as a child, I did a lot of exercise, didn’t eat much and had almost no energy reserve - my mum had to be constantly alert to me going too long between food because as soon as I started to feel unwell I didn’t want to eat and if I didn’t eat I’d go an very funny colour then collapse in a heap.
As an adult I have plenty of reserves Confused so it no longer happens but I still have low blood pressure, which makes me go dizzy if I stand up too quickly and can go very low if I get dehydrated.

Pebblespony · 09/07/2018 22:44

This happens me. Took ages to get a diagnosis for low blood pressure. It's horrible and frightening.
