Can you take anti emetics with gastro?

I have a bug.
I want to know if it is ok to take anti sickness medication or not. It doesn't trap it inside you does it? I'm not sure what I can do.
Its been 4 days of vomiting. Over 2 days with zero food staying down.
Being sick after drinking :( miserable

I'm not a doctor. Ask a doctor.
But in my opinion it's a bad idea.
You are vomiting because your body needs rid of the bug. It is awful but it will get better. And if it doesn't-ask a doctor.
hope you feel better soon.

Of course you can. (From a doctor)

sausagerollsontheside · 01/07/2018 17:42

That's what I thought but the NHS website says you can, so I called the doctor. 111 wanted me to go to hospital to see the GP I said I can't I have gastro!! So I'm waiting for them to call me

Learned something too! Grin

sausagerollsontheside · 01/07/2018 21:43

@Walkingthroughawall the cyclisine hasn't helped very much I've still been sick each time I drink water

I am waiting for the doctor to call me back. I know I won't die but it's just so unpleasant

It's not true that you need to vomit to get rid of a bug so take what you have however that's quite a long bug if you are not keeping down water for this long you will be dehydrated and may need to be seen in case something else is going on.

Hope you get a call back soon

Nogodsnomasters · 01/07/2018 23:44

4 days of vomiting is quite long for a tummy bug, usually the vomiting phase is over within 48hrs. Do you have loose stools as well? If so and you are not keeping water down then you are at quite high risk of dehydration after this many days. As pp's have said yes you can take anti emetic with a bug but this doesn't sound like a bug to me.

sausagerollsontheside · 02/07/2018 04:54

Oh is it really that long
I'll call the gp this am. Didn't get a call back last night despite leaving phone on loud
Made it through night no vomiting however woken up to be sick again already

No loose stools like total water a bit soft but nothing terrible
It says on NHS website a bug can last up to one week

I feel pretty ill but I kept water down all night
My stomach is sore

So this is day 5 now of vomiting? Yes a bug can last up to a week but not usually the vomiting stage, it's normally 48hrs of vomiting (for a bad bug, 24hrs is more common) followed by a good few days of diarrhea and nausea/lack of appetite. Definitely try to get in touch with a doctor, I'm sure they will prescribe you a stronger anti emetic.

sausagerollsontheside · 02/07/2018 13:26

I've stopped vomiting but feel vile

There is no space at the gp. Not even a phone call.
I hate this system we have.
I will have to use push doctor

Do you think it could be a parasite?
My husband and I are still ill.
I've felt nauseas for days but not been sick since Monday now I have been sick again and my husband is feeling awful
We are both weak.
No appetite forcing myself to eat a small amount

Should I go to see the gp or could this be gastro still? @Walkingthroughawall

I do think this is a bit of an extreme/rare length of time for gastro to last, by day 7 you should be feeling a lot brighter. I would ring the gp again and try to speak to someone over the phone at least for advice (sorry I live in Northern Ireland and our health services here differ in terms of 111 or out of hours etc)

sausagerollsontheside · 04/07/2018 22:17

I'm wondering if it's a parasite as we had been at 2 campsites last week

Didn't want to go to the GP incase I was infectious but I'll ring tomorrow morning as it's a long time to be nauseas for and I'm very small as it is at 43 kg

Thanks

Probably way off the mark but do you have any carbon monoxide alarms in your house? Sickness can be a symptom of CO poisoning with your DH being unwell too

sausagerollsontheside · 06/07/2018 06:29

We have them and I am suddenly better!
My husband is better too now.
Great shout though.

That was a horrendous bug
