IBS flare up

Hi there

I have IBS and at the moment it has flared up which is just typical as I’m going on holiday next week to Mexico.

I have felt my doctors are not very supportive with regards to the IBS, I’ve basically been told to take Fybogel and do yoga????

I also have gallstones, so I’m unsure as to whether some of the pain is from that too.

I don’t know what has set if off, I’ve had no symptoms for about 18 months and then all of a sudden the pains and diahorrea started. I aren’t eaten anything that I’ve not eaten before.

I’ve been reading about the FODMAP diet and from what I understand it’s a very basic bland diet.... is this right?

How am I going to follow this on holiday? I don’t drink very much, but would like to have a couple of cocktails at night am I going to be able to do this?

I wasn’t stressed about anything before it flared up and I know stress can do that with IBS and I’m defined that stressed now. What do I do if this happens on the plane? the pains and the diahorrea always happen between 7-10pm its always happens between these times. I’ve tried to have different things to eat to see if it makes it easier or worse, but it doesn’t make any different what I eat. It’s getting to the stage where I don’t want to eat anything at all.

I wa so looking forward to my holiday and now I’m absolutely dreading it

I used to not eat anything if I had a flight. Not very helpful if you’re the type to faint easily with low blood sugar. And then eat easily digestible food. Baby food. Apple purée, chicken soup, anything with a low fibre content so there isn’t much waste. It gives your stomach a rest.

Google “Specific Carbohydrate Diet”. It worked for me.

Call the airline ahead and let them know about your health issues and ask to be seated near the toilets. Also take Imodium with you. Try some breathing exercises to help with stress. Stay clear of trigger foods ( whatever it may be for you). Make sure At restaurants you go to to try and see where the toilets are located just in case. Try not to worry and have a good time.

*YoYotheclown will the airline do that? We have already been allocated our seats, will they be able to change them?

I’ve done it on a number of occasions. But my seats hadn’t been pre booked. But I would still call and have a word with them. Won’t hurt to ask.

Airlines have been really nice about it with me.
