Propanolol help needed

So I've had some ongoing anxiety issues for which Gp has prescribed propanolol .. I've now noticed some weird side effects which I'm wondering is it due to the meds? Like last night I had a lot of difficultly sleeping, pins and needles in my feet and then sudden pricks of cold on my hands and Arms, then it goes away and comes back and so on .... also I have a really upset stomach (but that's probably due to all the painkillers I've been taking as well).

Please help someone ! I'm driving myself mad thinking I've developed some kind of neurological disease with all the tingling and pins and needles !

Propanolol slows down the heart rate so when it so that can affect sleeping (and did with me) as your body tries to counteract it falling dangerously low; it falls even further when you are asleep.

I did not have the tingling but that could be because blood is not getting through? I am not a medic by the way. Perhaps avoid taking too many or late in the evening and maybe pop back to the GP.

What sort of dosage are you on? I was prescribed 40mg 3x a day a few years ago and as it turned out that was too strong.

I really don't know about interaction with painkillers, think you need to speak to GP

I took it for a week and got an upset stomach. Just wasn't for me.

Yes; tingling and upset stomachs are common side effects.

They may settle; or you can choose to put up with them or change meds/dosage with your doctors help.

Dosage is as and when needed?? I'm not sure how that is supposed to work. The hospital doctor has given me 10mg ones to take as and when needed ; my Gp thought that was far too less and has prescribed me 80mg a day ones which I havnt even touched yet! I've been taking the 10mg ones and if they're causing all the tingling and upset tummy , imagine what 80mg will do to me !

I got an upset tummy but it stopped after a couple of weeks. Propranolol was like a miracle for me. 80mg a day.

@hatenighttime I think they can go up to quite a high dosage (that's what GP told me). In my case 120mg was too high, I only took that the first day then stopped immediately and I didn't bother going back to GP, just walked around the park and got loads of fluids and waited for the head on a stalk sensation to wear off.

They're quite good in one way as they don't need to be built up in the body and maintained, they work instantly. You don't have to take them every day just as and when. I'd go back to GP and explain about tingling and ask about interaction with painkillers

Propranolol reduces the amount of blood the heart ejects in each beat. This can lead to cold hands & feet if the blood vessels supplying those areas are narrowed or if they constrict to maintain blood flow to more essential regions. Patients with Reynaud phenomenon or peripheral vascular disease shouldn't take it for this reason.
