Core biopsy breast

Just need a bit of a hand hold really... I went to the hospital yesterday to have a lump checked on my right breast. I was hoping he'd say it was just a cyst or breast tissue but he didn't know what it was and ended up doing a core biopsy. He said he thinks it's benign but needs to be sure. I've got a week to wait now until the results and I feel like I've been thrown into a nightmare. I've got two little girls and am worried sick about this coming back bad... anyone had any similar experiences Sad Need a little tlc xxx

They wouldn't need to check if they knew for sure it was cancer.

Even if it is, it is treatable. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Have had treatment. Still here. You just have to live in the moment. One thing you realise is how lovely very people can be.🙂

And there are lots of things which cause lumps which aren't cancerous. You might just have some fibrous tissue.

insancerre · 28/06/2018 07:46

I was in your position earlier this year
I have the all clear but it was torture waiting for the results
I ended up having a vacuum assisted biopsy too as the first vote biopsy was inconclusive
Chances are you will be absolutely fine

He did say it could be a lymph node but surely he comes across those every time he scans, I just wonder what her saw which made him think he needed to biopsy... this wait is going to be so horrible. Thank you both so much for your kind words

Through my treatment I found it really helped to have other things to focus on. Good books and tv series were invaluable. Just keeping your mind occupied on other things cuts the stress tremendously. I actually found I had to give myself permission to just forget about it and not spend my time worrying. Because worrying is an awful way to live and doesn't do anyone any good.

insancerre · 28/06/2018 09:47

It probably is just a lymph node then
But they can't say that till they know for 100%

I have had a core biopsy before, and in my case it was a breast cyst.

I am prone to cysts, but I've also now started to develop clusters of cysts which feel suspicious, but it's just because they're grouped.

I totally get your fear, even though to date (touch wood) all my lumps have been cysts, each time I get one, I get the fear - in case this is the time it's not. But the odds are on your side - the majority of lumps are harmless, and hopefully yours will be too. But doctors don't take any chances, which is a good thing.

I had the same experience as you in March OP so I totally get how you're feeling right now. I had a mammogram and was told by the surgeon that he thought it was a cyst and would drain it there and then. He did an ultrasound and saw that it wasn't a cyst after all as it was completely solid( as I understand it, cysts are usually liquid or only partially solid). I had to go back a few days later for the core biopsy and then had the one week wait.

Mine was all ok and was a benign adenoma. These are apparently unusual in women of my age (46) and are usually seen in much younger women, but there it was.

They take no chances with breast lumps. If they have advised you they think it's benign, then it probably is and they are just doing the biopsy to confirm their thoughts. I have heard that cancers are most of the time easy to spot on ultrasounds because of certain characteristics.

Take one day at a time, try and be in the moment and remember that worrying will not change the outcome, it will just spoil your time now.

Best of luck op. I understand how hard it is.

Thank you all so much x feeling a bit sick today I can't seem to keep anything down, rediculous I know but as much as I keep trying to focus on the most likely scenario of it being benign my head keeps running away with the sodding fairies!! Thank you all for being so lovely x

I had the same. went for a routine mammogram and they saw something, even tho I couldn't feel anything.
I had a core biopsy, then a week later was called back for another one as they still wernt sureConfused
The wait was awful (over xmas) but it was found to be calcification. I am now advised to have yearly mammograms.
Please try not to worry, not easy I knowFlowers

The chances are it's nothing, I think the statistic is that 90% of breast referrals are nothing and 70% of those referrals that are biopsied are nothing, so the odds are very much in your favour Smile

However, if it is cancer, then it is treatable. I was in your position a few months back, both my GP and the breast surgeon didn't think it was anything sinister, but a biopsy showed it was cancerous. I am currently having treatment and am getting through it.

And the thing is if it is a cancerous lump, then the absolute best thing to happen is for that to get diagnosed so that you can get on with treatment.

I know it's so easy to say, but worrying about it won't change the outcome, plus it probably is nothing, so try to keep yourself occupied and not worry too much until you. Get the results.

They like a biopsy if they are at all unsure.
They tell you everything they know or believe, ime.

They still don't know what my lump was (is). Except it's benign. "An inflammation". Consultant said sometimes they come across something new but still benign. I've named mine Aggie coz it put me on agony for first week or so. Now I think it's just a lumpy rib.

80% of biopsies are benign, I think? Most the rest are very treatable.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 29/06/2018 10:50

They just have to be 100% sure OP and 9.99 times out of 10 it is completely fine. I would say keep off the internet and keep yourself busy in real life. X
