I used to get a horrible achey pain under my right rib, like between my side and my front, just underneath and below my rib. Had no idea what it was but if I was lieing down, it was hard to sit up etc. It hasn't happened for years and not since I stopped playing badminton... So I assume sport related acheyness

Could be gall stones?

Slartybartfast · 23/06/2018 21:28

He does like cakes, so I thought gallstones

I was thinking gallstones too ... maybe get a 2nd opinion, especially if the pain is strong & seems to come in waves (like labour pains haha). Good luck, hope its an easy answer like indigestion

I get awful pain under my right rib, no gallstones.

Sometimes it's inflammation, sometimes constipation, sometimes gas.

tiggykate · 23/06/2018 21:45

I’ve got gall bladder problems. When I get an attack the pain is excruciating. Lasts several hours and is worse than labour pain. If it’s a niggly pain I don’t think it is gall bladder - maybe it’s something muscular?

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 23/06/2018 21:54

I get regular pains there . Gall bladder problems were ruled out and a gastroenterologist said it was most likely a form of IBS where the upper gut goes into spasm.

Heratnumber7 · 23/06/2018 22:21

Indigestion?

Have this kind of pain frequently - and I don't have a gall bladder! It does seem to ease off after going to the loo, so I wondered if it was some kind of spasm due to being a bit constipated. Get him to go back to gp for a referral to be scanned.

How long ?
I had this recently for a week like a dull ache the it suddenly became incredibly painful and I thought I'd end up in hospital it was that bad... the spots appeared and it was shingles! Before the spots appeared GP had no clue.

Slartybartfast · 23/06/2018 22:59

Oh poor you, but no, more than a month, more than 6

It could be gallstones. What type of pain is it and is it intermittent? Is it agony or bearable?
It could also just be bad trapped wind. It can be extremely painful (I’ve been woken up in the night on one occasion with it). Lying on your left side can help, and so can drinking a cup of hot water
