Jaw problems/questions?

Hi!

Question 1. How much does you / should your jaw move from side to side?!

My jaw is really sore and I've noticed recently that I can hardly move it to the right at all, but to the left I can "jut" it out really quite far and if I out my fingers on the joints it just doesn't feel quite right, almost like it is dislocating?

  1. Who do you see about jaw problems?

I feel like it's giving me a headache.

Thanks in advance 😊

I once had jaw pain that turned out to be a neck/shoulder problem. At first I assumed there was a problem with my teeth so went to the dentist but he couldn't find anything wrong. My physiotherapist sorted it out.

In your case perhaps see your GP - how long has it been like this?

Ultimately, if there were a significant problem, you'd see a maxillo-facial surgeon (these are specialists who are qualified in both medicine and dentistry). But there are lots of steps before that where more straightforward remedies (like physiotherapy) might be identified.

Classic TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disfunction symptoms. It is a dental problem, see your dentist they may need to refer you off to your local hospital to see the maxillofacial consultants.

Well I've always had a clicky jaw which never really bothered me but drives DP mental and it's just been the last 2 or three weeks I've noticed it becoming uncomfortable.

I've just also just noticed that when relaxing, my bottom teeth are sitting pushed right up hard against my front teeth, and it all feels really tensed up. I do go and see an osteopath interninantly when my neck gets sore.

I think if you go to the GP she/he might want you to see a dentist for a first opinion before initiating any investigations/treatments.

Yep just had TMJ..went to dentist first had he suggested soft diet for a few weeks. Nothing that needs chewing or biting. Boring but it worked!
