Can anyone help me with my blood test results?

I had a blood test last week and just received the report. It's just the actual value though and not any information as to whether I need to get anything looked at.

If you know about test results would you mind having a look for me?

Results:

Vitamin B12 - 339
Vitamin D (25OH), total - 11.4
IgE, total - 66.6
DHEA-S - 360.7
Free T3 - 3.39
Free T4 - 1.14
TSH - 3.37

Thank you!

Wait maybe it's useless without the units, sorry.

Units are

pg/ml
ng/ml
Iu/ml
ug/dl
pg/ml
ng/dl
mlU/l

Respectively

Does it have reference ranges next to the scores?

SaltyMyDear · 20/06/2018 12:40

Depending what Vit D test they did, it might indicate Vit D deficiency ( www.webmd.com/diet/guide/vitamin-d-deficiency#2-5 )

Which of course is incredibly likely. Almost everyone in the UK has Vit D deficiency.

I think your T4 and TSH look fine, so I don't think you have a thyroid problem. But I can't work out what your Free T3 should be.

When you work out the reference ranges, the thing to note is if you're close to the edge of the reference range it can still indicate a problem.

GinaCarbonara · 20/06/2018 12:49

Oh what an idiot, there's a whole other page on the email that has the reference ranges. I was just looking at the summary.

Endocrinology (Serum)
DHEA-S (ECL)" 360.7 98.8 - 340
Free T3 (ECL)" 3.39 2.04 - 4.40
Free T4 (ECL)" 1.14 0.93 - 1.70
TSH (ECL)" 3.37 0.30 - 4.20

Vitamin B12 (ECL)" 339 200-1000

Vitamin D (25OH), total(ECL)" 11.4 40 - 80

So I guess looking at that I don't have enough Vit D, but I've actually been living in the Middle East for a year now so I've had more sun than I've had in the UK!

I guess everything else looks okay?

I would suggest you go on a website called health unlocked
I've had some brilliant advice on there

GinaCarbonara · 20/06/2018 14:09

Thanks, I'll take a look there

Your DHEA is also high. That needs to be looked at.

For Vit D you’re going to need a very high dose supplement.

Thanks salty. My doctor called and said I need to go and be tested for coeliacs due to the vitamin results and the intolerance test which showed a reaction with gluten.

I thought you would know surely if you have coeliacs? I mean I've always had a dodgy tummy after I eat and have near constant diarrhoea but I thought that was from eating unhealthy food. I do have a rash on my stomach and legs and bum that I've had off and on for ten years that looks exactly like the rash that I saw when I googled coeliac disease, so who knows? I can go to a lab here and get more tests done on Saturday, but I need to request what tests I want.

Do you know how they would give vit d supplements? Would it be big tablets?

Oh, that sounds exactly like celiac / gluten sensitivity. And yes, often you don't know that you have it.

But, even if it comes back and says you don't have celiac, you should still give up gluten to see if it helps your dodgy tummy and constant diarrhoea. A lot of people have 'not celiac gluten sensitivity' which means you didn't fail the celiac test but you still can't tolerate gluten.

No idea about the vit d tablets. I think small ones :)

Sweetandkind · 21/06/2018 19:56

Tsh is quite high. Did they test thyroid antibodies. Healthunlocked would be a good firum for advice.

MumOfDiamonds · 21/06/2018 20:03

I was diagnosed with coeliac 4 years ago. Had no idea what it was. Apart from the odd tummy/toilet trouble I was fine until my iron levels plummeted. That's when they tested me and gave me the biopsy.

GinaCarbonara · 22/06/2018 09:47

Oh really? Hmm looks like Coeliac isn't looking so unlikely now!

Does anybody know what specific tests I should ask for at the lab for my thyroid and for coeliac?

Thanks everyone for your help!
