i have been advised by the pharmacist to get some to help ds sleep at night but not sure whether to buy it or not.

does the day time one have the same effect cos i don't want him sleeping all day.

we've got a humidifier and vapouriser in his room and we've raised his bed with books. he's had calpol and nurofen to bring his temp down but he still is having trouble sleeping.

which one did you use essbee?

Have you tried medised?

nappyaddict · 23/05/2007 10:04

yes but it doesnt really do much for coughs.

Benylin for children's night coughs works wonders for mine when they have colds.

Lolly68 · 23/05/2007 10:30

I have tixylix but I dont think it makes them drowsy at all unless there is one that does? I use Medised at night when DD has a cold - it helps her sleep cos it has a decongestant in it.

nappyaddict · 23/05/2007 11:06

i think the nighttime one is in a purple box. was it that one you used lolly?

Two of mine currently have a horrible dry cough which goes bonkers at night. I have been giving them tixylix. At the moment, I only have the day time one so that is what they are having. I don't know if it really makes much difference to the cough but when you lie there listening to them coughing all night, you feel you have to do something.

The day-time one certainly doesn't keep them awake. I imagine the night-time one might have something in it that aids sleep.

nappyaddict · 23/05/2007 11:15

"the daytime one certainly doesn't keep them awake"

what do you mean DG??

DumbledoresGirl · 23/05/2007 11:18

I mean it doesn't have a stimulant in it that means they can't sleep if you give it to them at night.

Washersaurus · 23/05/2007 11:33

I've recently used the Tixylix cough and cold one with DS (22mths). I only really used it at night because his cough and seriously runny nose was keeping him awake - it did seem to help him sleep but probably only because he wasn't waking himself up coughing! I think it says on the box that it MAY cause drowsiness.

Lolly68 · 23/05/2007 11:55

nappyaddict - have not used nighttime tixylix - never knew there was one. Medised has got antihistimine in it hence why it helps then sleep.

foxinsocks · 23/05/2007 12:01

the night time tixylix certainly helps dd when she has a nasty, irritating night time cough - it doesn't work all night but it does give her a break from the coughing.

I think it's the strawberry flavoured one.

foxinsocks · 23/05/2007 12:03

it looks like this I seem to remember

foxinsocks · 23/05/2007 12:04

the tixylix cough and cold is also good for night time coughs

goingfor3 · 23/05/2007 12:07

A night time cough medicine will generally surpress a cough which will help them sleep better. A day time one, if for chesty coughs, will help bring the phlem up making the cough more productive.
