She has, apparently, started her periods at 9 yrs 6 months and 1 day

It's not fair - she is too young

I also thought she had to be much heavier (she's about 4 1/2 stone)

She hasn't got any boobs or anything yet - thank god

She is way too young to have to deal with it all

I guess I need to get her some books

We have had lots of bits of "the talk" but she won't do sex education til next year - so I guess something a bit more accurate/factual would help

Any ideas on books?

Or helping me deal with it?

Oh poor DD she is so young!
Really sorry, no advice but hope this will bump for someone who can help.
Good luck
x

Dottydot · 22/05/2007 21:54

oh bless her - hope she (and you) are both OK - I haven't got dd's but can imagine this must be quite a moment for you - she must seem very young to be starting to become a grown up.

Katymac · 22/05/2007 21:59

I'm sure there is a weight connection

I wonder if she has just "stratched" herself or something?

OP posts:
Dottydot · 22/05/2007 22:01

I was wondering whether something like that had happened - has she cut herself or something? Might be an idea to take her down to the GP to get her checked. Is she feeling OK, stomach cramps or anything? Thinking of you.

Katymac · 22/05/2007 22:07

Well she has had an upset tummy for over a week now

I really hope she hasn't started yet

But I'm not sure how the DR would tell

I still think there is a weight thing (but I'm not finding it on google)

it's supposed to be around 6 1/2 stone to trigger ovulation, and a blood test would show whether she's ovulating or not. Also pubic hair tends to come first. Checking it out with your GP sounds like a good idea though, as 9 is pretty early.

Katymac · 22/05/2007 22:14

I knew there was a weight thingie

I'm going to suggest that it's not her periods yet

OP posts:
NannyL · 22/05/2007 22:23

yes.... im sure ive herd that you need to be around 7 stone

Katymac · 22/05/2007 22:24

So it's another trip to the GP

Or can I just stick my head in the sand & see what happens?

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 22/05/2007 22:25

poor things, that is young. Take her to your GP.

rattyfraggle · 22/05/2007 22:25

katymac
i can understand exactly how you feel cuz the same thing happened to my daughter. At 9.3 yrs, she bled for one day, proper period, needed pads etc, then nothing. took to docs and they said its very common one off period. after that initial time, over the next 2 years she had everything develop, pubic hair, boobs, hips, PMT, ovulation symptons...the lot but NO bleedeing until she was 11.2 yrs, she is now 12.4 yrs and has normal periods so dont worry, i know its scary and they grow up so fast, but i would be surprised if it carries on.
xxxxxxx

wurlywurly · 22/05/2007 22:25

MrsWho · 22/05/2007 23:08

I started at 8 and hid it the first couple of time

fireflyfairy2 · 22/05/2007 23:11

MY friend started her periods when we were in primary school.

She was 9.

There is no way she was 7 stone though, she was a very slim, fine wee thing.

Hopefully it isn't and your dd will have a few years yet.

Katymac · 25/05/2007 07:56

& now I find out they don't have sanitary bins in their toilets (yr 4)

How do I deal with that?

OP posts:
Budababe · 25/05/2007 08:02

Think you'll have to approach the school. I think early puberty is becoming more common so it is something that schools need to address.

Has she really started then? Not just a one-off? Poor thing.

Katymac · 25/05/2007 08:05

Well it could be a one-off - but it has lasted until today (day 5) - so it might reappear or it might not

OP posts:
Shoshable · 25/05/2007 08:23

I started mine at 9, remember being the only one in the school, cos we were going on a school trip away and I was worried so they said I could share a room with my teacher.

DGd is 11.2 and having tummy cramps for the last two months, and Def PMT at the same time as me.

colditz · 25/05/2007 08:35

ahhhh

Oh it's a shame for her, poor love!

tell the school, and they'll let her use the other loos. When I was at school there were no sanitary bins anywhere at primary school, so half of year 6 was using the staff toilet!
