Has anyone tried this with any success ?

My pre menstrual migraines have now started mid month.

I've got triptans and anti sickness but i still feel awful for a few days each time.
The preventive medication options have had intolerable side effects

Would like to find a preventative that works !

Not personally but my mum had awful problems with this and tried all meds. I remember her friend suggesting acupuncture and her being reluctant. She held off but ended up going and it was a life changer. This was many years ago and I can’t remember how long the course was but it really was life changing.

Thank you busy bee. That's helpful.
I'm glad it helped your mum

I'm considering trying this too. I've just had the mirena fitted for endometriosis and consultant said it might help my migraines although I see reports all over the place of People saying it gave them migraines. If no improvement in next couple of months I'm definitely going.

Tried three sessions but no obvious effect and I couldn't justify paying for another three.
Have had several occipital nerve block injections which were bigger needles. First one made a difference but next two didn't so that treatment was withdrawn to me and offered to others.
After over 25 years what made the most impact by far was when I drastically cut back eating sugar and white flour. Now on one triptan tablet every two months instead of six or seven a month.

Thank you fortysix

That's interesting and well worth a try. I thought alcohol was was a trigger but I barely drink now due to the migraines.

Next stop, cut out sugar :/ easier said that done

Like you I barely drink because of headaches.
What changed for me was increasingly with a headache coming on I felt sick and light headed. Had to have instant food to stave off taking a headache tablet reaching for a chocolate bar or a can of Sprite to give an instant sugar hit.
Over time I was storing more and more weight and it became noticeable and I felt sluggish.
One day I read somewhere that actress Emma Thompson had to lose two stones for a part. She looked amazing. I'm not a particular fan of hers but it stuck with me that if two stones could come off I too would look better.
I bought FitBit and literally doubled my exercise and halved my food. Weight came off pretty quickly and after a month i was over a stone lighter. I was doing about 25k steps a day and avoided all processed sugar and white flour. Cold turkey on the snacks was a killer. Blooming walking meant I was out pounding the pavement about 3 hours a day, up an hour earlier to find the time, but I was caught up in the buzz of succeeding. It took me four weeks before I noticed I had not had a headache. Suddenly I was loads lighter and headache free and I felt great. I think it was about 5 months before I got a headache. Fast forward about a year I have kept off two stones and walk 20 k steps a day and now eat cake and chocolate. Extreme action and not for everyone. However after the first month I wasn't just doing it it to lose weight I was doing it to quit the headaches and get my life back. I can't begin to tell you how after over 25 years of headaches and bounce back headaches how good it feels to virtually escape. The 20k steps a day to maintain the lower weight is not easy but I'm terrified I will get back into the old ways and I don't want that again. I've now signed myself off from the headaches clinic to give my place to someone else. Grin
