Teething & Calpol- Advice pleeeease

I know there are prolly some who do some who really don't use calpol but I do and just wanted to check that I am administering correctly.
DD is 5 1/2 months and has been teething for nearly 2 months - she has 2 teeth already and sometimes seems to be really "suffering" with it - mega dribbles, whiny, constant chewing. This is when I giver her a spoon - the small plastic one in the packet. I know this sounds really idiotic but is it ok to give even if she has no fever but just seems like she's in pain? (I don't know for sure if she is), It does seem to calm her somewhat afterwards.....

yes, its ok to give her it-its for pain relief too. boots homeopathic teeting remedy is also good for calming them down, and bach rescue remedy can also be used for babies.

have you tried the teething powders? Ashton and Parsons - they are sold in most independent chemists as well as some larger Boots stores - calpol is also good ...

My DS was really bad last week (cried for 3 days/nights and never cries for no reason) and Calpol and teething powders were not helping at all!

Was recommended (by doctor) that I use Ibuprofen. Tried Calbuprofen which did seem to help. Also if too bad can be used in conjunction with Calpol.

Hate giving medicine, but as doctor said, if you had toothache yourself you would take anything you could to ease the pain!

if lo's aren't sleeping either ask the doctor for phenargen - most will prescribe if lo has gone a few nights with hardly any sleep. was a godsend to us!

whats this rescue remedy?

seamonster · 22/05/2007 18:58

I agree with the granules and the medicine advise, but it isn't a fever with teething they're just hot and bothered, although I have found in the past that if they do get a fever with a cold then teeth can follow.

LaBoheme · 22/05/2007 18:59

Phenargen - DH calls that knock-out juice
may try if this carries on much longer!

RR is a lovely Bach herbal remedy for relaxing the nerves

When is the worst over as it were with teething?

OP posts:
LaBoheme · 22/05/2007 19:00

She also has a cold could this be connected?

It may be, although are you sure, if she's crying and dribbling it could be why she seems stuffed up. Try putting some drops of karvol or similar on some cotton wool in her room (out of reach) to see if it helps with her poor nose. Ooh! Just remembered, have you got any of those chewy teething things that go in the fridge? They might help.
