Light Brown patches appearing on dd...HELP!

My dd is 3.5 and this is about the 5th time a piece of skin has changed over night, there is no difference in the texture of the skin, no lumpyness or roughness, its just a light brown colour, the ones before have lasted a week or so then fade away.
This morning she had woke up with quite a big one on her cheek..what the hell are they??? Can anyone help?

Do they just show up when there has been some sunshine? Could be some sort of birthmark/pigmentation? Cafe au lait marks?

My ds gets this, every summer (he is also 3) a bit of the skin on his back goes a little browner than everywhere else, but in his case they don't fade. I think they're called cafe-au-lait marks, and they're just a different pigmentation in the skin. If you tan easily you don't generally get them because your skin's tanning mechanism is very ewffective. It's usually blonds or redheads that get them because their skin doesn't tan as well as dark-haired peoples'.

She has light skin and lightish brown hair, can you direct me somewhere to look at a photo of these, sound like it though. TIA

Ive got chloasma too - huge patch on my forehead and by my eyes and it doesn't really fade too much in the winter either. Local GP spotted it a few years ago when I went for a repeat pill prescription and as a result, I can no longer use any estrogen (sp??) based contraceptives as it's hormone related.....
