Only had it for a couple of years and the tablets seem to work well for the itchy throat , runny eyes etc... but I still feel completely shit (tired, irritated, can't be bothered doing anything ) just wondered if this is a common symptom of hay fever or unrelated and it's just a coincidence ?

@WhyBird2k Beconase is safe to take when pregnant.

The itching in my ears is also driving me loopy as it's stopping me sleeping

I am having dreams about wire coat hangers bent into certain shapes to fit down my throat and my ear canal

And don't even start me on my itchy eyes- and I'm using opticrom and this year it's not even touching it!

Sorry, not sure why my full stops disappeared. Posting from the app on my phone and it sometimes does funny things when it posts to the site!

Yep. Get raging sinusitis and reach for the Sudafed and paracetamol for the headaches when the anti histamines don't cut it.

swingofthings · 13/06/2018 07:08

WhyBird, I was pregnant 19 years ago, most over the counter antihistamine were still under patent and quite new. Even then, my GP understood that I wouldn't be able to function without them. He looked into it and said that the three main one had been deemed safe during pregnancy, although he did change me to one (I think it might have been piriton indeed) that had had more testing.

My kids are 15 and 18, very healthy but also none of them affected by allergies so far, despite not even breastfeeding. Maybe just luck, but I do wonder whether taking the pills during pregnancy might actually have helped them.

swingofthings · 13/06/2018 07:10

Just to add, I'm allergic to pollen but also dustmite, so took the antihistamine daily from the start of the pregnancies (or rather didn't stop them) and have been on it daily since. The only long term impact it's had is drying my eyes.

YES Op! I've never heard anyone else say it makes them eat more but I'm always starving when I've got it and crave loads of rubbish food, the more the better
I've googled this before thinking it was a thing and never found any evidence, don't feel so bad now I'm eating for medicinal reasons

DinoSn0re · 13/06/2018 07:20

Yes, it’s awful. I found Fexofenadine tablets and Avamys nasal spray the most effective combo for me - speak to your doctor, you might get prescribed something with less side effects than OTC medicines.

tufts and swingofthings thank you so much for your advice, it's given me hope!
