ds's sunburn has blistered. am about to head out to the pharmacy with him, will they have anything i can put on it or should i just go straight to the docs?

he's 9 months btw.

i forgot to put the sunscreen in the swimming bag yesterday and he got burned on his face on the way home. feel free to yell at me.

ouch!

i'd check with the pharmacy. I know when we were kids, though older than your ds, 'natural' treatments were:

cold teabags rubbed across face - the tannin apparently helps pain

cold tomatoes - same as above

plain yoghurt put on the burn

i imagine this would be quite hard to do any of the above to a 9mth old!!

PinkTulips · 22/05/2007 10:04

that's the problem, i've tried cucumber and a few other remedies but he really doesn't like me going near it (obviously)

the blisters are coming up on the patch i couldn't get at as well with the aloe vera yeasterday because i was afraid of it going in his eye if he jerked

You can ask at the pharmacy, but the may say see your gp because he is so young.Hope he's not in to much pain.

If it's blistered, I would take him to the doctor or even A & E if you have one that's not going to keep you waiting for hours.

You are not the world's worst mother, I have had two of my three at the hospital with burns, and neither was anything as simple as sunburn - it is so easy to do, especially at this time of the year when it's not that hot or sunny.

Don't beat yourself up.

thanks all, heading out with him now, if anyone has any more ideas though please post.

Calamine lotion for the irritation and calpol if he's sore. I had blistered sunburn and that's what the pharmacist recommended for me.

I learned something new the other day - Apparently Sudocream is really good for sunburn - hope you are both okay

PinkTulips · 22/05/2007 12:48

he's been prescribed steroid cream for a week and we're to use calpol and aftersun as needed to ease it for him.

thanks all, interesting about the sudocream, i did not know that!

Glad you got something for ds's face - how is he faring?

PinkTulips · 22/05/2007 14:22

he's being a little troper, mostly down to the calpol i think, when it wears off he gets hysterical but in the meantime he's ok.

the blisters are though and one of them came off when i put the cream on. that's the main reason the doc prescribed the cream to help stop it all scabbing and scarring as it heals
