Hi

Ive been on medication for a few years now. Been changed to a breastfeeding friendly one for as still bf my lo.

I am over weight but working on this. Im 33 and the furthest they looked into it was checking my my heart rate and that was it.

I would really like to make the changes with the hope to come off it , but is it even possible ?

Yes, I came off it (betablockers and diuretics) in my late 20s after weight loss, improved fitness and less stress. 15 years later i have bp checks but not needed medication again yet.

Only came off it when GP said it was ok to do so, though. I wouldn't just come off it unless GP recommends it.

When I stopped betablockers I felt really weird for a few days - my heart was beating as if I was really stressed, even though I wasn't. Then it settled down to normal.

Incidentally it is worth making ANY improvement to your weight, fitness and stress situation. Even if it's not enough to get you off medication, it still benefits your heart. Every lb and every brisk walk makes a difference, even if you can't see it. I am porky and unfit but i still keep trying. Your heart is pretty important.

Thanks, thats good to know its possible !

Ive vastly reduced my salt intake and am on caffeine free drinks.

I think the only thing thats going to make any real improvement is weightloss and exercise. My meds increased during pregnancy so get regular checks to reduce meds. Have an appointments this week so will see where im at then :)

I did lost weight , got fit , low stress . All that changed back in them again

I was on them for several years; can't remember exactly how many because it was a long time ago.

My BP is a bit higher than it should be, but not high enough for meds.

Making the changes is always an ongoing process and sometimes I am better than others. I don't want to sound like I've got it all sorted or anything. I fall back a bit and then I make more of an effort for a while. I may never be a super-healthy gym bunny, but I can be a lot more healthy than I would have been otherwise.

I have got massive motivation because my dad had high BP and then died young of heart problems. I would never want to leave my kids like that.

I know it's a pain but it's ALWAYS worth trying because you really can make a difference.
