Ganglion pain

I have a large ish ganglion at the top of my wrist. It's been there a month+ painlessly but now the joint is really sore when I wave my wrist around. GP (I went when it didn't hurt) said it will go eventually on its own but I'm concerned it's now sore. It's not my writing hand though fortunately. Nb, I'm only 30, apparently young to have one. What treatment can I have? (No chance I'm smacking a bible on it).

I'm in two minds about posting this as would never wish to scaremonger but the fact that you said it's now sore...
When I was 11 I was diagnosed with a ganglion - still have the factsheet in my health folder - by the GP. It was in my ankle. Many years later, when I was 20 I insisted on having it removed even though I knew as non-urgent surgery it'd probably be a good year plus of waiting. Whilst left be it was painless if ever caught or any pressure applied to it, it was v v painful.
At some point they did an ultra-sound and I was booked in surprisingly swiftly for an op. They removed the 'ganglion' and it turned out it was a sarcoma.
So anyway, the point of my posting this is not to alarm as it is an incredibly rare type of cancer, but as such it does get mis-diagnosed, so it's highly unlikely but if you have concerns about the validity of the diagnosis in any way, please do go back and push your GP.

When I was about your age ( a long time ago Grin) I had a ganglion exactly the same as that in my left wrist.
When it became very sore and swollen, I was referred to Orthopaedics and I had it drained under LA. It settled down well for about 18mths, then became symptomatic again. Had Another referral to Orthopaedics & another drain under LA.
Haven't had any problems since.. it's still there, but tiny now & it's 20+ years later.

They can be surgically removed, but mine didn't get to that point.
