Our best friends had a baby boy beginning of february, a few days ago thier Health Visitor commented on the shape of his head and suggested that she thought he had 'flat head syndrome' (plagiocephaly???) - they had info about a childs helmet thing that costs £2000 etc, which is no problem- anyway to today...

They were advised to go to hospital for a brain scan, we have just had a text from them to say that the baby has been admitted to hospital and tomorrow is being transferred to a larger city hospital as the baby has 'fluid on the brain'
Im looking stuff up in my textbooks- but cant really gather much 'Layman's' info.

any advise/help/info??

I suspect that in the case of your friend's baby they mean a condition called hydrocephalus which can have any number of causes. It would usually present with a head that is growing too quickly with fontanelles and sutures that are widening rather than closing. It can have lots of different causes and it can usually be treated. Often the baby has to have shunt inserted to drain the fluid away.

Can't help but thought I'd bump for you

My friends baby had this when she was 4 months old - she is absolutely fine now (she is 16 months old) although about a month behind developmentally which is normal.

I don't want to scare you but it did take 3 operations to sort it out as the first 2 didn't work - but as I say, absolutely fine now and from what I can gather, a fairly routine operation.

I thought it may be hydrocephalus.

Thanks for the replies.

I really feel for them- first time parents, wish i could more to help
