Lotions to relieve itchy skin

Am being driven mad by itchy skin in the last month. Some times the skin feels hot to the touch but mostly never looks red or inflamed. Is mostly confined to areas exposed to the sun: arms, back of neck and upper chest. .
I don’t sunbathe as such but am outdoors a lot in the garden or out walking and don’t generally wear sun cream unless there is no shade to be had. The only medication I take is amitriptyline for chronic knee pain and ceterizine for year round allergies, both of which are recommended treatments for itchy skin!!
Has anyone found an anti itch cream or remedy that has worked for them?I know staying in the shade, covered up and lathered in sun cream the minute the sun appears in May is the ultimate cure but I was hoping there might be another way.

Hi, I'm always itchy too. I've got MS and it's been suggested that it's linked as it could be nerve/Neuro related. Cool baths/showers help, I find. Also, e45 itch relief cream is good. Sudocrem is also very soothing when applied to places you've scratched.i scratch so badly during the night that I end up bleeding so understand completely how annoying and upsetting it is!

Thanks Bluesheep for sharing your experience. I try so hard not to scratch but you’re right, at night you do it in your sleep without realising. It’s interesting that you ve been told that it can be related to nerve damage because that’s what’s causing my knee pain. I’ve found the E45 itch cream is drying my skin out making the skin more likely to break when I scratch but cool showers are helping. I always have sudocreme around so will try that on the broken skin.
I had this problem all the way through the menopause but no problems for the last 5 years. Just wasn’t expecting it to start up again.

Give Aveeno daily moisturising lotion a try. Goes on easy, stops the itching and has a cooling effect on the skin.
I've been using this for quite a while and I find it very effective.
