DS (4.5) came up with spots (lots of) on his arms yesterday pm. Since he had been out in the garden most of the day, I thought "grass rash" (since I get it) and did nothing except check with him that it wasn't itchy.
However, this morning spots on arms had joined together so his whole forearm was bright red, and now he had the same spots on his legs as well (lower half).
Not grass rash, then, as he had long trousers on all weekend. They have slap cheek going round at school, so I kept him off and took him to GP's (and declined seeing the pregnant GP) just in case. GP says not slap cheek as it would have started on his face - diagnoses non-specific allergy and gives him anti-histamines.
Now call me a fussy mother, but I would like to know what it is so that I can try and avoid it. Someone suggested strawberries - but he has eaten them (in large quantities, given half a chance) for years - would he really suddenly react now? No changes of washing powder, etc - but the rash is still spreading and is now on his face and neck and all the way up his legs.

All suggestions welcome...

I would suggest a plant of some sort in your garden.

I get a red rash if i touch conifers, morning glory to name a few.

Thanks Lizzie - but do you get a rash all over, or just where you have touched it IYSWIM? I get plenty of contact allergies (grass, nickel, and others) but this is now over most of his body and he was wearing quite a lot of clothes yesterday...

It tends to spread over my arms and legs.

I can be wearing a long sleeved top and touch a conifer with my hand and the rash would spread up my arm.

Thanks - in that case, I will add plants (god knows which - big garden!) to my list of possible culprits - need to settle this lot down and then see if it happens again. It's quite impressive (GP told him to go and show it off to all his friends at school )

You could ask at the garden centre about plants that may cause a rash.
