<<Querulous voice> Do I have man-flu?

I have some godawful bug at the moment. Been feeling terrible since last Thursday. Shakes, shivers, aching, high temperature (on and off), exhausted, zero appetite. No 'real' symptoms though like snot or sickness or whatever, except for a v sore throat (in the gland area, rather than the actual throat).

In fact it feels kind of like mumps, which I had when I was eleven (it's not possible to catch that again though, right).

I'm hardly ever ill, and I can't remember a time when a bug has lasted so long.

Has anyone else experienced this pestilence (it will make me feel better to know that other are suffering too ).

I'm meant to be going away to Amsterdam at the weekend....

Querulous is the wrong word, but we'll overlook

Before everyone dives in, you do sound poorly to me (poor love). For what it's worth, I've had very sore throat (gland area) for about two weeks now. I'm not presenting any other symptoms, though.

What you need is a weekend in Amsterdam

mrsmalumbas · 21/05/2007 17:45

Could be mono - that's another word for glandular fever i.e viral infection type thingy. I had something like this a few weeks ago and felt like poo. Not much you can other than rest, you could take nurofen and/or gargle with aspirin for the sore throat, I also took garlic and vit C. Anyway, these things cen be very infectious so if you do go to Amsterdam don't snog anyone.

Whaddya mean querulous isn't the right word...huh?? HUH?? Wanna step outside????

(lol - you're right, I meant quavering.

MrsMalumbas - no snogging??? Awww shite. There are going to be a lot of disappointed men . How long did your mono last?

I'll step outside , but I want you to know that I wear glasses ...

I have had the same symptoms recently, and sorry to say it has gone on for rather a long while. I did eventually go to a doctor (after about 4 weeks...) I had a blood test the results of which were clear, but my GP said that since I saw her a large number of people have showed up with the same thing - she thinks it is a virus doing the rounds.

My advice: Grin and bear it, rest when you can, eat what you can and it will go away eventually. Hopefully you will recover faster than me,(I've got a 4 month old and don't get that much sleep at the moment which can't help) and be fine in time for Amsterdam.

lol rabbleraiser so do I. Shall we remove our spectacles and squint menacingly at one another. Just noticed I also said pestilence...wtf?! I think I meant plague. Very restrained of you not to have mocked me

NEPOL - argh...I have a 2.5 year old and a 9 month old. They laugh in the face of rest and recuperation.
