Awful anal fissure won't heal 10mo pp

I've always struggled on and off with fissures due to being born with Hirsprung's disease, but since I gave birth last August I've got a huge one that's so painful and bleeds a lot.

I've had three courses of suppositories from my GP as well as ointment, which do help but don't fully heal it. I spoke to the doctor again and she said I may need surgery (eek!) but we discussed that there's no point doing it until I complete my family as it might relapse after a second birth.

I'm just so fed up of being in pain. Has anyone actually managed to heal such a chronic fissure without surgical intervention?

Have they considered topics diltiazem? Ointments and suppositories can work well for haemorrhoids and sometimes for fissures but for me the diltiazem worked.
GTN gave me an awful headache.
I am not sure if all gPs can prescribe diltiazem cream, however. You may have to ask to be seen by a consultant colorectal surgeon.

I was advised against surgery as they said they can remove it but then I'd have the issue of something else that would need to heal & could cause another fissure.

I was given this cream which gave me horrendous horrendous headaches but it did work.

I also took stool softeners for months on end to give it chance to heal.

Also, get a child's stool for the toilet and use that when you go to the toilet, so you don't ever strain.

Eat weetabix for breakfast.

I've had a fissure for 11 years now. It's finally pissed off and left me alone for over 2 years now.

Thanks guys. I haven't tried GTN yet. Before I was pregnant it never lasted long enough for me to end up getting it, and now I'm still breastfeeding so can't try it until after my LG is fully weaned. That might be six months or more as she has eczema and allergies so I'm keen to keep BFing well into her second year.

I already eat weetabix but I think I need to drink more water and eat more fruit, and also get cracking on the stool softeners again.

@Getinmynelly I'm pleased to hear you've had a good couple of years. It gives me hope that this won't be forever! I'd rather not have surgery if I can afford it but I had a look down there with a hand mirror and it's a right mess so feeling like it's unlikely it will ever get better on its own.
