Slow Heartbeat Is This an Emergency?

I have woken up this morning am feeling breathless and dizzy. I am in bed and my pulse oximeter and Fitbit are showing my heart rate between 50 and 60. My normal resting pulse is around 65 to 68. Do I need to see someone today or can it wait for a routine doctor’s appointment.

I'd see someone urgently today. For peace of mind if nothing else. You don't mess around with heart symptoms. If it doesn't improve I would go to A&E (and I never recommend that!) because it is potentially an emergency.

If you are breathless then you need to see someone today.

I have rung my doctor’s surgery and am waiting for the doctor to call me, the triage list is full and no appointments today 🙁

A heart rate of 50-60 isn’t of concern in itself. Have you taken your pulse manually?

Breathlessness should be checked out though. Has it eased at all?

Not really have an appointment at 2.45 with nurse practitioner so am getting checked, still feeling faint and dizzy

Have had an ECG which has shown nothing abnormal, they have taken blood to check my thyroid levels (I am on thyroxine). The nurse practitioner thinks I am just very fit (despite being overweight) due to the amount of walking I do, and also I have always had low blood pressure. All these things probably tip me to it being too low in hot weather especially if I get a bit dehydrated. I need to see my GP if the symptoms persist and check back for my thyroid results.

Thanks everyone they said I had done the right thing to go and get checked. Going to try and drink a bit more water!

Glad you are ok.
Two of my family have VERY slow heartbeats and low blood pressure. One is DH.. hr averages in low 40s but he has to see a cardiologist in a couple of weeks as it keeps dipping into the 30s! He IS fit (cycles) but still...
Other is my DD1 who is 26. She has always had her dad's hr but also has EDS and POTS and passes out at the drop of a hat. She has now been put on meds to actually keep her blood pressure and hr up a bit.

Neither are in a bad way as such but both need monitoring , so definitely keep an eye on it!

If you're resting heart rate is over 65, then it is just normal. It can, and only can be, of concern if under 60, but even then, it is often normal and sign that the heart is healthy.

My resting heart rate is around 50 and it goes down to 42 every night. I do wake up feeling dizzy and lightheaded quite often, but tests have shown all is normal. As I am typing now, it's 53.
